I'll probably record Day 1. I'm a turtle, but I keep things going at least, so I won't be one of those fast-paced YouTubers, and more a slower one, taking in all the information I can get.
Also, for anyone doing a video, some tips:
- Be funny, and if you can't be funny, be interesting, or be informative. Don't try to be funny, you'll come out as a Christmas cracker joke.
- Be nervous. You are allowed to screw up, you are human. Don't worry if you screw up, just keep on playing till you find a dynamic, so it becomes all natural.
- You will always start out crap. If you were to look at your first video and your last video, after two years of recording, you'll see the quality of your content would have improved. Don't worry about this factor, you will improve, so long as you keep at it.
- Take any criticism you get. So few people understand criticism, and how it's actually good. If someone says you sound soft, or you are too quiet, improve upon that, listen your audience. After all, they get you all the views.
- Long silences are never good. If you stay quiet for 30 seconds straight, most people would close the video. Try to talk, but don't have the problem of talking too much. Some people talk without breathing, which is fine, so long as you don't come off annoying. (Pauses for effect can work well, or if there's a cutscene)
- Breath.
- Learn to read. You're probably thinking: "That's silly! Who can't read?" Well, anyone can read, just few people can actually read well. I don't want to listen to someone doing a Let's Play, and have him stutter with every two words trying to give us some narrative. If you can't read to well, try to avoid it, or practice. (One trick if you can't read well out loud, read it to yourself really quickly, then tell the audience what happened)
- Try to use *Similes and Metaphors. They make videos, it makes it seem more human, and in some cases, more funnier.
- Avoid "Uhm's". Uhm's make you sound like you don't have no idea what's going on. You can use it as a theatrical effect, like if you're being attacked, or if some strange shit just went down.
- Edit your videos. If there's a segment were nothing happens for two minutes, then edit that out. No person needs to see that, including your audience.
- And lastly: Have Fun. Having fun is the most important part. Because if you don't enjoy it, then there's no point in you doing it. Your audience won't enjoy it if you don't enjoy it.
Also, don't record a video with your phone...
Don't ever do that. Use a proper screen recorder, like
Fraps,
Dxtory,
Bandicam,
Camtasia, or an in-built recorder, like
Nvidia's Shadow Play and
AMD's Plays.TV. As for your voice,
Audacity works well, seeing as it can record
and edit your voice (remove background noise, etc.), or just use the plain old Windows Voice Recorder. Make sure you have good audio quality. You don't need to sound crystal clear, but don't sound muffled or soft, and background noise annoys the
hell out of people.
A few good video editors (you'll need one), is Sony Vegas Pro, Lightworks, DaVinci Resolve, and good 'ol Windows Movie Maker. Sony Vegas Pro is the only paid option, the rest are free.
Some references,
Quill18, he makes very good, informative videos.
Arumba, as well, more serious in his work.
*Similes are comparisons using the words
like or
as. Metaphors are comparisons
not using
like or
as.
(Example: Mike is a pig ->
Metaphor. Mike is
like a pig ->
Simile)
Hope this helped.
