I've heard this less-than-charming concept mentioned several times on this forum. It refers to the fact, that when this "value" reaches a certain level, powers with exotic religions will begin to advance technologically.

Can anybody enlighten me as to what this value exactly is, and how it works? Can it be tweaked in the savegame-files?

It's an EU2 feature.

There it is in the savefile and it rises if you are at war with the white man or if you border them by land.

It affects research (faster when wshiteman rises) and low whiteman forbids building of cavalry and ships.

AFAIK pagans in EU1 are condemned to ignorance for the rest of their dreary lives.

On the upside this means that Spain can actually take them out.:D

I'm sure that whiteman value is EU1 as well. I've heard it from many people in the forums before, talking about it. :)

It's there alright, working too.

Right, kids! Not knowing, I looked. It's all over the place in EU1. I guess we traded with the natives after all.

I dont' know whether works or not, but in the EU1 save file there is a whiteman value.

The only "whiteman" I could find was stated under every province, and the "values" were a "Yes" or a "No". As I was trying to build an aztec-game I looked up all their provinces, and they all had a "Yes" under "Whiteman". All in all, I'm still pretty stumped on this one.

I badly want to play a"real" game as one of the exotics, without changing their religion.

I know that all nations are assigned to a "technology-sphere" - most western nations are in the latin sphere for example. If you change your sphere - will it affect your religion (can the aztecs be assigned to the latin or the orthodox sphere without becoming latin or orthodox)?

Anywere else than in the save file??

But they still don't accumulate research:mad:

What do you mean? The Aztecs have been transferred to Latin tech group, but still don’t have an efficient research? In that case the ‘Whiteman value’ should be the one to blame. Enter the save game file and edit it!

Where? The only "whiteman value" I could find was stated under the individual provinces, and they said "yes" for Aztec, as well as European provinces. I couldn't find any "whiteman" anywhere else.

Yes...I remember now...vaguely. Actually, I think the whiteman value is hardcoded. That'll mean that you can't change it.

However try this out for a laugh: Take a backup copy of your file. Run a 'Search & Replace' on the string 'whiteman = yes' (or whatever it is called) and replace it white 'whiteman = no' and see if your tech costs are changing.
