White Terrain back.

Hello,
I just purchased CK2 and all the DLCS from Steam. Unfortunately when I use the terrain map it looks white. I understand this was fixed in 1.04c how has it shown back up for me? I have an NVIDIA Geforce Go 7900 GS. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you on Linux, Mac or PC?

Assuming PC: Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. Zip up your whole Documents/CK2/logs/ directory and attach or link that here too please.

I'm sorry I didn't realize there was like a tech guy "on duty" like situation, had spent alot of that time playing and browsing for this issue. Should have though about my OS sorry about that, game is great fun and thankfully it appears only the terrain map is an issue everything else runs great!

Just so you know, your video card is below the minimum spec for the game

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon X1900, 512mb graphics memory required

so it will never be very fast. Don't try running EU4 on this machine as it is far less tolerant of below-spec video cards, beign a more demanding game than CK2.

In any case your video driver is ancient, here is the latest for you - try this:

Meh, I'm always told that, this laptop was built in 2006, and runs everything that anyone can put out that I care to own. I don't play "pretty" games I play games, and you guys make games, for which I am eternally grateful for(by pretty games, I mean games with fluff and no substances)! I have EU3 complete and enjoyed it alot, but I enjoy Victoria 2 HoI3 and CK2 a bit more at the moment, no offense.

Perhaps I will upgrade my unit once Microsoft decides to start building PCs again and not tablets, I'd rather lose both of my testicles than own a gaming PC with Windows 8 on it. On the subject of my video driver I wasn't aware it was still being supported after the driver I had was released in 09. I remember reading it was the last patch for my type of card, but I'm glad to see they are still putting drivers out that will make my system run a bit better. I am downloading it and preparing to install now. I will report back after I uninstall/install and start the game up. Thank you very much for the time and effort you put into helping me!

Well..................now that I have uninstalled my current driver, the driver I have downloaded will not install because it can not find compatible graphics hardware...............................So...............

Goddamn it, now it isn't recognizing the hardware I have installed in the machine. I even downloaded the Ge force Experience, app, it is telling me my drivers are up to date, while in dxdiag it a showing the driver as having been released in 2004.

Well discovered why in fact the driver would not work. It is for Geforce 7900 GS (desktop VGA) not Geforce GO 7900 GS (Laptop VGA), that latest and last driver I found using the site you used (I use nvidia.com but its the same) was the version 179 that I have released 11 Feb 09. I will load the game up to see if a fresh driver install solved the issue, but I'm going to assume not.

By the way, don't things need to be 20 years old plus before they are considered classics? My rig isn't ancient, its is wise and knowledgeable, and I'll bet good money its runs with a better OS than anything "younger" than it.

Anyways I'm gonna load the game up and report back, if it works yay, if not yay, I just remember that when I played the game a while back (can't remember if it was a demo, or if it was CK2 vanilla) I know I didn't have this issue, and that the issue is stated as being fixed since 1.04c. In the big scheme of things, it is just the terrain map that looks horrendous (as well as the loading main menu), all other displays function fine, so I guess its not really big deal.

I can confirm that it did not solve the issue, the terrain is still white.

And I can also confirm, that I have no idea where you are getting your information from? If 512mg is the minimum requirement for this game, which you stated, how is it then, that with 512mg of on board memory that I am below that minimum. By what you have said, I am just at the line, not below it.

So I guess what I'm saying is, Just so you know: Your information is wrong, my rig meets your standards no matter how "old" it might seem to you. I guess what I am also saying is that I don't appreciate the idea that the fact that your "solution" to the issue was that my system is old and that you recommend I don't play another game, which I know I can run. I suppose having said all that, I will continue on my endeavor to solve this solution by myself, because in 2013, it appears all tech problems come with the solution, buy a new rig, coupled with the air of "it isn't my fault you have an old rig" attitude. If I read into you post too much and that was not the attitude I should have seen, I apologize, but that is what I am feeling left with. Your rig doesn't meet the requirements even how you try to spin it. Your graphic card is Geforce 7900 thats Series 7 card when the game minimum is Geforce 8800 thats Series 8 card it doesn't matter that they both use 512mg graphical memory when the 7900 is less efficient in using it than 8800. Not to mention its missing all the things that Series 8 card has.

Ah yes, I apologise, I missed the "Go" part of the video chipset designation. You do indeed have the latest and last driver for that card available on XP or any other Windows version, so upgrading Windows itself will not help at all.

As Wezqu says the problem is not the amount of video memory but the GPU (video processor), Go 7900GS vs (non-Go) 8800. These are further apart than they look, because the Go is the low-power mobile version of the 7900, so is much less powerful even than the proper 7900. The 8800 was released nearly 2 years after the Go 7900.

So I'm sorry about this , but there is no fix possible with this hardware.
