Something like that happend to me a couple of times. There is triggering a white peace very often. When I fought against France for the german unification, Austria declared war on me aswell (seperate war). A couple of days after France accepted a peace, a white peace triggered for the german-austrian war - that did not make any sense, because the war was seperate and Austria was doing quite fine.

If you can find a savegame before something like this happens(preferable within one or two months) that would be great.

As Argentina, I went to war against Bolivia to gain my eastern cores that they have (from the start) because Brazil went to war for them (in a separate war)
So, hoping I would be able to grab it before Brazil (they didn't have cores, they were just expanding), but I didn't, but when Brazil got what they wanted, I ended up with a White peace aswell, despite being in a separate war..
So, all in all, I'm pretty sure it's because you have to have a CB on your enemy, and if that CB goes away, so does the war.. In this case I couldn't get what Bolivia didn't have.. And they're in France's sphere, while nobody wants me :(
Sorry I can't provide a save game, I just couldn't stop playing, and didn't think it really through at the time..

edit: when I say a CB on your enemy, I meant an active War Goal.. xD

Oh, this is working as designed. All wargoals that become invalid(for example, someone snatches a state before you) are seen as failed wargoals and are removed. If this results in a war with no wargoals, a white peace is signed automatically.

Don't know if this happened to you arcain, but that would explain it.
