"Rise of the West" was a nice game for Windows 3.1, quite abstract, but nevertheless ...
It also boasted a scenario editor, and I made about 20 scenarios for it using all my historical maps. :)

Did I ever tell you guys that I once made a HUGE civII crusader scenario complete with mongols and everything? It started exactly the day before the fall of Jerusalem (with Antiochia, Edessa etc. already in place). I planned to put it on the web when finished. There were some big problems, though, I never could overcome. One was that after a few turns, the preset alliances always broke and everything developed in an utterly silly way ...
In the end, I got so angry that I impulsively deleted all my work .... so many hours for nothing! :( EU was the first game which allowed to really encourage scenarios to develop in a historical way. :)

It was the first game I ever played in a PC (went to a friend's house, I still had an MSX). I simply LOVED it. I still gave it a stint some time ago when I downloaded it from an abandonware.

I specially loved the sword fight segments :)

Sure? I downloaded "Life and Death" a month ago from there. I know that they are now limited by the companies on the software they can offer, but I still think you can download games absolutely "abandoned".

I love that site, I discovered EU1 from a review I readed there.

Of course! It was my first strategy game. I still have my Amiga and from time to time I use it again to remember these old games... and not only the Amiga, but also my old C64 :p

Defender of the Crown- so dreamy. Like a double chocolate fudge cupcake and a warm glass milk on a cold winter day. I used to rock as the Saxon swordman (Geoffrey?). Raid all the day long, then siege. Visit Robin, get an army for free. Yeah, it was great.

Anyone remember Castles II? Now that was a hell of a game.

Yes, it was. I loved the events engine, I replayed the game until I was certain to have gone all thru the events in all their options (the "search for Presbiter John Kingdom" was hard to get :))

Also, I remember the manual to be particularly England-biased. After reading it you got the impression that Henry was a lovely goody to shoes while Charles de Valois was a bastard who was hated by everybody :p

isn't that realistic? :D
well for me GK I was the best of the series. like romance of the 3 kingdom I was the best of the 3 on this serie.
