I'm trying to choose between Utopia, or a few of the more recent EUIV expansions.
For a bit of context, EUIII, and latterly, IV, have been some of my favourite games of all time. For IV, I own all the expansions except Mare Nostrum, Rights of Man, El Dorado, Conquest of Paradise, and the new Mandate of Heaven.
On the one hand, I love the game, and am wondering if I bought the above expansions, how much better an experience it would make above and beyond what I've already got. I should say, I only really like to play the more historical approach, so I wouldn't use either the nation designer or the randomised new world.
On the other hand, I love sci-fi, and Stellaris was a gaming dream. However, I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of depth compared to the more established titles. I have bought all of the updates so far, and with Utopia now released, I am very tempted.
So: Option one is to further deepen EUIV to bring it to its current level and keep playing a series I love. Option two is to buy Utopia and expand on the current Stellaris experience. What I'm wondering is:
a) do the listed expansions above add enough to the game above what I've already got to make them worth considering?
b) is Utopia a significant improvement over the vanilla game?
On the whole, I would prefer Stellaris, simply because I love the sci-fi setting, but I'm going for depth really. Does Utopia do enough, or does Stellaris need a second or third major expansion?
