Well my sig has always been timed to where Texas was at the end of the last game that Paradox has made so since HoI ended in 1947 we didn't have Alaska or Hawaii yet. I had a Spanish Avatar at first and then a Mexican one after EUII came out:).

Nobody wants a Crimean War scenario?

If you look at the very first post you will see that I suggested that...
;)

The Crimean War involved many of the great powers (Russia, Ottoman Empire, England, France, Sardinia) as well as small balkan states (like Greece) - and had things went a bit differently, nations like Prussia and Austria could also have been involved. So I really think a Crimean War scenario would be justified to include!:)

4. The American Civil War and the Wars of Italian and German Unification (1859-remember Italian Unification starts in 1859)

I disagree with you. It is true that the war with Austria, in which Lombardy was gained, as well the plebiscites issued in the small Italian states happened in 1859. But I would like to remind you, that Sardinia had by then already fought a unsuccesful war against Austria in order to unite at least northern Italy. The war that eventually led to the unification started in 1859, I agree on that - but the efforts to achieve Italian Unification started long time before 1859. It's hard to say exactly when, but if I must I think the appointment of Camillo Cavour was one of the major events marking the beginning of the unification process.

But I agree 1859 would be a good starting year - but 1861 would be better, since it includes the Civil War. And we all know that the ACW will be a scenario included, right?:D

Hmm.. Maybe:

Grand Campaign (1835-1920)
Why: This would be the entire time period of the game, and so it should definitely be included.

I can't think of good name right now... (1850-1920)
Why: This would start near the Crimean War (1853-1856), the arrival of Commodore Perry to Japan (1853), and other wars near this time, perhaps also this one could include the American Civil War as well? (It is only within 10 years later that it started)

Can't think of one here either.. Maybe "Colonialism and War" :) (1880-1920)
Or perhaps this should be an 1870 scenario, and then a 1890 or around that could be made also. :)

And then last, but not least, 1914-1920, which could be called "The Great War" :)

Meiji-Tenno

PS: I have seen some people have asked about Russo-Japanese War's dates. The fighting started at Port Arthur on February 8,1904, and ended on September 5, 1905 when the treaty of Portsmouth was signed, at the city of Portsmouth, in the state of New Hampshire of the United States.

You raise a good point. It seems most want to start a scenario at the start of a war. Why not have the scenario start earlier and give the player a chance to avoid that particular war? It might be interesting to try to avoid the American Civil War or WWI instead of simply repeating them. I'm also concerned how they will handle WWI. Nothing more exciting than trench warfare, NOT. :D :D

Yes I know...but the successful unification of Italy began in 1859. I am aware a serious attempt to unify Italy occured in 1848.

1861 would miss the most significant events for Italian Unification so a scenario centered around that must start in 1859. Also John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry was in 1859 which is a good lead-up to the ACW. Perhaps when the first State Secedes the US player gets to decide which side he will back?

Alternatively perhaps an ACW scenario should start on 20 December 1860 where the Confederate Player only has South Carolina to start...

You're right I can always play the Grand Scenario but my point is that most of the suggestions focused of starting a scenario at the outbreak of a war. I think everyone here would agree that war is the result of political, economic social, etc pressures that started long before war broke out. In EU some of the scenarios, E.G. Age of Exploration started with wars already in progress because it wasn't linked to any particular war. This isn't a big deal with me but I think more factors need to be taken into consideration than the military factor. ;)

I can see your point, but I'm pretty sure that most players don't want to avoid eg. the American Civil War - they want to win it...;)
