Jan Mayen.

Yeah, how could I forget.

To those weirdos who disliked this post - Jan Mayen actually IS the hardest boss in eu4, because when it is spawned via console command it has +50% (!!!) discipline, virtually infinite manpower, virtually infinite money, free CB on everyone, and on top of that always has Lucky status. I spawned Jan Mayen in (it is assigned randomly) West Africa in my last observer game, in 20 years it had like half of that area and was already top 1 global power, by 1821 it was the biggest AI empire I have ever seen (mind you, it starts as 2PM).

In my experience Brandenburg is only one alliance with Sweden away from going from 'oh, hey, Brandenburg's doing pretty well' to 'Aaaaauuuggghhhh, oh God aaaaaaaaaa!'

With Zazzau I fought all of Europe at once, and it continued with brief peace deals with a few of them for most of the end game. It's hard for me to pick an end game boss, but the toughest was of course the Prussian. Especially annoying were Prussian stacks backed up by French stacks.

However, I would call that rather trivial compared to the mid game fights. It's that fight when you try to establish yourself as no longer some minor ROTW nation, but rather a force that should be taken seriously that can get messy. They have their defensive bonus ideas and you're still figuring out what ideas are. They have army tradition and as a human you have no chance for it yet. I find those fights to be more difficult (and more meaningful for that matter) than any end game boss fight.

If you want a really hard boss, I guess you could do something stupid like no-CB Venice as a Muslim, take Brescia (their HRE province), and send insults to everyone in Europe. You should get every Catholic (except maybe British Isles and Scandinavia?) in a coalition against you.

Played by AI, with lucky nation on, which is according to you the final boss of Eu4?

-Post Renovatio Imperii Austria ,oh should I also precise it has also 4 PU
-Big Blue Blob France, with 6/6/6 generals and 135% moral and 120% discipline, and infinite manpower regeneration
-Tsardom of all the Russias (but also Lithuania, Persia and part of the Ming), in a defensive war in winter, with defensive ideas
-Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth which has stomped and annexed part of Ottoman Empire and Russia and has over 150% cavalry ability
-Kebab Empire with all the Balkans,Caucasus,, Crimea Anatolia, Egypt, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Syria, Iraq, part of Persia and 500 galleys

In the order of biggest to smallest, Ming, BBB, Ottoman, PLC, and Sweden (early game) are my boss mobs. Ming is tough for me because they've only imploded once before and even when I rush toward them they are way too big. HRE has always been a joke for me.

I had that one time when Ottomans gone Orthodox from rebels, stomped Mamluks 2 times and got PU'd by Austria (Which already inherited Burgundy and Hungary)... Also allied with Le Blob.
For any east-asian country, it is Russia: you either need to break through it to get a border with the Scandinavians and westernze, or just to get back all this dark-green steppe land. Russian attrition and, most probably, inferior mil. tech makes Asia vs. Russia wars a living hell, although a pretty cold one.
