I have watched lots of tutorials from Vic 2 and gameplay and has decided to buy the base game and the dlcs in the next sale. But i must ask which of these nations should i play first? U.S.A or Prussia? Thanks for reading my question. And i am grateful if you can answer it.

USA and Japan are the best tutorial countries imo. Very little will threaten you unless you provoke attack and they've both got big populations and lots of resources in their core territory. Prussia requires some micro managing of spheres and taking charge in European politics, which will be a lot less intimidating after having familiarized yourself with the game a bit.

Thanks for answering my question Agiknight! Let me guess Japan is one of the best beginner countries because it can westernize fast and rek the nearby primitive people? And because of that can rise easily to a great power status?

Pretty much! Japan can very easily bully it's neighbors around, and it has a very easy time westernizing compared to a typical unwesternized nation. And being an island nation means you don't really have any dangerous neighbors to worry about. (Except Russia, but defeating them as Japan isn't too difficult and if you don't want to fight them you can block the straits with boats)

Japan and USA are a good run for first game, but there are some other good ones, if you feel like you're a big boy:
- Prussia can form the Northern German Federation (NDF) which can evolve into Germany and is highly educated. Sphereing everyone is pretty neat, as the game already did 75% of the job for you, and you need to just maintain it until you sphere the german states
- France is a strong country with quite a bit of colonies, and lacks little in terms of resources. However, you will be thrown pretty quickly into conflicts.
- The United States of Central America (USCA) might not be the smartest man in the block, but as an American country it will get immigration pretty quickly. I consider it to be the "Jack of All Trades" in Vanilla.
-Sweden is not overpowered! Sweden is a great country for the colonial game, because it can form Scandinavia- which would be a literate country with more than a few colonies. On this note, Denmark has some.
-Belgium. A small country with many memes and quite a bit of factories. THE country for learning the industrial ropes.
-Texas, which was MY first country... And I did it because I thought it would be cool. Don't actually try and play Texas as a first run. If you do, though, just let everybody vote, get factories and eat Mexican clay. You will swim in immigrants.

Countries which are NOT for beginners:
-Russia. You have many people, but they are very uneducated, and your lands are so vast that you can't just expect to get a centralized government.
-China. You have more people than you can count, but most of them are under your puppets. What's more is that you could commit suicide by jumping from the militancy level to your education level.
-Many small (less than 200k pop) countries: This is not going to be easy because you will not have a big army to conquer people so your country won't be smol. This includes Texas.
-German minors. no.
-Jan mayen. NO.

And on a side note: Vanilla Victoria 2 is a good game for beginning. You should move later to mods such as HPM and POP, though. (if you don't know the mods, it's a sign which says that you don't need to download them just yet)

To be honest I wouldn't really recommend Belgium, because if the Dutch ally with Prussians before trying to invade you, you're pretty much doomed (except if you're allied with 2 Great Powers, but I failed to do that).

Japan usually needs at least one of Prussia, Austria, or the United Kingdom to open a second front against Russia. The Ottomans can work, too, if you draw enough Russian troops to your armies.

Japan and France are both good choices, but I think France is best. Less micro than UK, and incredibly strong at start. Can basically do any type of game you want with them.

USA can get pretty darn quiet after 1865 depending what your goals are.

Being a democracy when you start is not ideal I would say..you would really want to have the ability to change parties and try out some different political systems to see what suits you. Learning to build a profitable industry, is very useful..see what works, what doesn't work..before you send it on autopilot.

I learned my craft playing Sweden mostly, still a country I return to. Its initial goals is to become GP, sphere Denmark, become Scandinavia. After that, recapture Finnland. This can be done, but requires a good ally and some luck unless you have a massive colonial empire to take troops from.

Other than that, you can pretty much industrialise from the start..but your population is low so being clever about what you need and what you have access to in terms of rgo's.

It probably is very overpowered tbh, but a fun country to play.

The Netherlands is also quite a fun country to learn with. It has a pretty good colonial empire already, lots of wealth. Home states are relatively small, and you have a CB on Belgium to use when the time is right.

Both Scandinavia and Netherlands have holdings in Africa, which is good to jump start the scramble for Africa.

I'd be interested to hear back once you complete your first game..any problems, questions and what you thought. I spend way too much time on this game still..had it since 2011 I think..

Thanks for all the help! I am going to buy the game and a house divided and hearts of darkness when the christmas sale begins. I have thought about it for a time now. But that grimkm puts netherlands and sweden to the picture. It would be nice to liberate my home country from russian rule early. But after people have suggested this many starting countries. I need to think about it more. But again i appreciate all the help i am getting from this community :)

Thanks for that link migalhone! Reading through that helped me quite alot. And considering the tutorial recommended Brazil. I need to choose from 3 countries now :/

Eh is not a big deal really. More like a matter of preference: USA, Prussia, Japan, France and Brazil are all good beginner countries :)

True migalhone. Though i havent still understanded how elections in democracies work. And if i am going to become one i got a question. For example how can i get my people to vote for a party with state capitalism? And should i buy the game from paradox store now? Or wait for the sale to come to steam?

Q: Which of these nations should i play as when i buy the game?

A: All of them. That should keep you busy for the next decade or so.

If you can't wait, the Paradox store is fine. If you can wait, Steam will run sales periodically, and you can get it for a lot less money. Immediately after the holidays, a lot of younger gamers will have Christmas gift money to burn. There may not be a lot of sales, because it's already pretty much guaranteed that they're going to spend that money anyway, regardless of price. Once that "burning a hole in my pocket" cash is gone, the occasional sales will resume. The early bird gets the worm, but the SECOND mouse to reach the trap gets the cheese.

- You can use a National Focus in order to increase popular support for parties. I don't recommend going this route because i believe election events are more efficient.

Nevertheless, if you want to try it, first you check what party you want to boost. Say it's the Liberal Party, whose colour is Bright Yellow. Then select a state and on the National Focus button, you select the icon with a ballot and a flag, on the bottom of the National Focus list. Pick the one with the Yellow flag, to increase the popularity of Liberal parties.

The color of the flag indicates the ideology: Light Blue for Conservatives, Bright Yellow for Liberals, Red for Socialists and so on. As with other National Foci, you want to use them in your most populous states.

- To get your people to vote for a party with State Capitalism, when the election events pop up, look which parties have State Capitalism, then choose the option that goes along with the issue being debated. Basically, look at every election event as a debate, where you have to state an opinion, which will influence people. Here's some examples:

Nº1: An election event about economy pops up: You have to choose between Laissez-Faire, Interventionism, State Capitalism and Planned Economy (the four economic policies existent in Victoria 2). Choose the option that has State Capitalism, to influence more people to vote for the parties whose economic policy is State Capitalism.

Nº2: Another election event, this time about religious policy: Let's say you have one party with State Capitalism (let's call it Nationalist Party). To persuade people's votes towards the Nationalist Party, check their religious policy. Assuming it says "Moralism", you choose the event option that increases Moralism and more people will vote for parties with Moralism.

Nº3: Election event about Citizenship policy: You have to choose between Residency, Limited Citizenship or Full Citizenship (The three Citizenship policies of Victoria 2). The Nationalist Party has "Residency" as it's Citizenship policy? Select the option that boosts Residency and more people will vote for parties with "Residency".

A final note: When election events come along, usually you want to influence the population on a certain political issue towards a certain policy, so by choosing an option, there will be more votes on parties who support that specific policy. Why am i hammering this? Because different parties can have the same policies, sometimes you may increase the popular support for parties other than the intended.

Say we have 4 parties: Nationalists, Conservatives, Liberals and Socialists. Nationalists and Socialists have "State Capitalism", while Conservatives and Liberals have "Interventionism". An election event about economy comes along, and you want the Socialists to win the election or at least rise in popular support. So you choose the option that will increase State Capitalism.

By doing this, more people will vote for the Socialists BUT WILL ALSO VOTE FOR THE NATIONALISTS.

Hope you understood the basic principle of elections: When election time comes, treat every event as a debate and steer popular opinion towards your prefered party. This is important to understand even if your government type allows you to pick the ruling party (Prussian Constitutionalism, HM's Monarchy). In a Democracy it's even more important, since you can't cherry pick a part to rule!

As a democracy, if the party you want to put in power doesn't win, you may start new elections before the 4 years pass. Doing this allows you to put your favorite party in power faster, HOWEVER, every time you do this, it increases militancy and with higher militancy, more pissed off people come along, and that means more rebels, and we all know how fun it is to deal with rebels (spoiler alert: It's not fun).

EDIT1: Regarding the question about buying the game: Waiting for a sale or not it's entirely up to you. The only mandatory thing to do, to obtain the full Victoria 2 experience, is to make sure you have the expansions A House Divided and Heart of Darkness. Happy Holidays and enjoy one the best strategy games out there!

EDIT2 : Victoria 2 and all DLC's for -75%! DO IT! http://store.steampowered.com/sub/29111/

To be honest I wouldn't really recommend Belgium, because if the Dutch ally with Prussians before trying to invade you, you're pretty much doomed (except if you're allied with 2 Great Powers, but I failed to do that).

gonna have to second this. Netherlands are up your butt way too fast with a powerful friend in the form of usually Prussia or Russia to consider Belgium newb-friendly.
