This may be a stupid question, but with so many different mods, how can one chose one and still play MP? The MP community must get much divided over which mod to use or what?

This dilemma was the prime reason why I never used a mod in HOI1. Once you do, you adapt to it, but the players you meet at the MP forum, vnet or other gamesites mostly go with the vanilla version.

I've had a tap with a sledgehammer indicating that this time I need to use a mod because the vanillaversion is unlikely to satisfy me, but do I need to install 6 different mods or how the hell can I be sure to find anyone to MP with???

Starfire is the only real moddir mod out right now and they where very successful for multiplayer during HoI 1. You can download it off the TRP website.

Spocky, Lothos. The primary concern is that I am using the mod that a majority will be using (!?). Otherwise it will be hell to join a MP where a lot of rules and conditions have suddenly changed because everyone else insisting on using a different mod.

IOWs, I'd prefer to use a mod that is focused on MP. But I think more of them are, so it doesn't really narrow the choice down much, does it?

The moddir function is said not to work with HoI II yet so I'd advise against using any mod for MP play. The safest approach to addressing balance issues is to create an amended scenario or edit a save file. Such changes will not stop you from also playing the standard version which is what the majority of MP players tend to use.

Just make a second copy of your HOI2 folder, overwrite your second copy of HOI2 with Starfire files, start your HOI2 game from your second copy folder and forget about the broken moddir. With 2 copies you can play either vanilla or Starfire (IMO, Starfire was the best MP mod in HOI1)
