I have no arguments that if Britian had control of the northern atlantic world, the continental system would have collapsed , in fact, it probably would never have been enacted.

Our involvment in the american revolution, however, was no where near a major war as the one you suggest, it did cost, but not near as much as an invasion of our rightful lands of Louisiana would. I also doubt that given France's economic state, that the banks would have loaned France much money for a war (one of the major reasons France pulled out of the Seven Years' War was that King Louis XIV could not raise more money). The point of all this being that, even without an american revolution, France could never have fought a major war before the Revolution broke out at the very least, the revolution would have emerged soon after Louis the XVI declared war and probably with a much greater ferocity (it that is possible lol) than it did in the face of the King's flagrant disregard for the state of the nation.

Finance apart, Napoleon's farcical shenanigans in the Caribbean suggest any war waged in this theatre would have been a logistical disaster for France - the more so if the US never came into being.

Perhaps, seeing as the French navy was ill-prepared for a turly colonial war after the seven years' war, but we should also take into account that the French-Spanish navy was occupied almost exclusivly in European waters and that Napoleon was not to concerned with colonial wars to begin with.

Well, as I said before, a "For Want of a Nail" mod would be wonderful if done correctly; USA loses AMerican Revolution and such. However, I'd really love to do a Mod where either the USA loses the Civil War or(a personal favorite of mine) Joseph Holt is Lincon's VP isntead of Johnson.

WHic hremidns me; with the use of political parties and such; how exactly with Vic modle heads of state and government. WIll there be a pool of historical characters with various political ideologies that could pop up from time to time? Me, I want to see a President LaFollette :p

Holt was the Prosecuter-General during the Civil War; was the man responcible for the prosecution of the Copper Heads. Following the assassination of Lincoln, he beleived it to have been a Confederate plot and pushed for the execution of Jefferson Davis as well as other leading members of the Confederate government. Ironically, he was NOT pro-civil rights but might have gone for it if he wished to punish the South.

I also assuem he'd have taken a harder line in foreign relations; expeically an Anglo and Francophobic bent due to their tactic support for the Confederacy. Needless to say, he'd have been a bit more interesting than Johnson ;) (I'm actually researching to do this as a full ATL one day. Just wait untuil you see a somewhat more successful Fenian Raid, President Custer, the People's Party, and American intervention in the Boer War under President Bryan :p)

That would be impossible. The game takes too many turns to do all those events. I dont even thing WWI could be done.

and your scenario about the Americas doesn't make sense, as I dont think Napoleon would've sold the Louisiana territories.

the unity of the kingdom of the Netherlands is kept (no creation of Belgium),

ok, the kingdom of the Netherlands is a bad name because the Orange kings never realy got recognised in Belgium,

so the Dutch make their king unemployed and seek an act of union in goverment between the 2 capitals (they had 2 capitals),

A couple of thoughts on possible alternative history mods, I like small, single variable changes and see their repercussions through time. Each of these were highly possible during their time.

A scenario where Russia does not expand into Central Asia, and British influence stretches into Turkestan and Persia. Potential conflicts could threaten India or the Russian Heartland.

A scenario where the War of the Triple Alliance ends in a conquest victory of Uruguay and Paraguay by Brazil. The Brazilian Empire could consolidate its position and threaten Argentina, Venezuela, and Portuguese colonies in Africa.

The failure to build a Trans-Canadian railroad would lead to the US expansion into present-day western Canada. A much-smaller Canada and isolationist USA would provide less manpower and resources for Britain in World War I.

The Portuguese claims on southern Africa are accepted, uniting Angola and Mozambique with a Zambezi valley territory (Rhodesia). Potential Portuguese-British conflict, with much larger potentials for a greater war.

And there are a myriad of economic mod possibilities, not tied into conflict.

A Post-Napoleonic Victory game would be pretty cool; as would one where the French armada launched during the American Revolution makes landfall on British soil(which very well could have happened. I had a friend write up a timeline about this once).

Also I have an idea for a mod where the US loses the American Revolution, as well as the Risings of 1823 and 1848. Its now the 1860's and American is again agitating for independance from GB.

For that matter a For Want of a Nail Mod would be pretty sweet as well.

I think the best one I've thought of is an alternate history in which Napoleon did not get defeated, and has been biding his time. Therfore, on one side we have French-American alliance, on the other, a Russian-Austrian alliance, and on the other hand, a Spanish-English-Japanese Alliance, and so on.

Because america had traditional feelings of affection for bonaparte, as jefferon's writings suggest.

No, seriously, I like the idea of a continued bonapartist empire.

We could have France dominating Europe; Spain is a Protectorate as is Italy and Poland. Prussia has been chastised and is an ally; Austria has been weakened but has managed nominal independance. Ireland has a Republican government under President Tone. Britain is hurting, but still controls much of her Empire and is a counter point to the French continental Empire. America is Neutral and is to busy trying to take the continent; it favors France more than Britain but would preferto stay the hell out of European affairs.

We could have a series of weaker Bonaparte rulers in France following the death of Napoleon I although with agitation at home as well as abroad. Eventually Germany unifies under one of the other states(Prussia has lost a lot of prestige by this point); perhaps Bavaria manages to become the unifying state. This causes a crisis and the French Empire begins to disintigrate by the 1860's or so. Might make for an interesting Alt Great War :)
