Hello everyone! I am an old fan of the HOI-series. I played them since the first one and mostly using well balanced mods. Its been a long time since i played HOI2 though.
However I have not yet tried the newer ones AoD or DH.

I was thinking of buying AoD or DH, but im not sure which would be best for me to get atm. I already have HOI2 and HOI3/SF
Now im confused. . Is for example AoD better than HOI3/SF?

Im thinking of the gameplay mainly. I was a tad dissapointed with HOI3 but I need advice on whether to get AoD instead or just wait for FTM. If AoD is a great improvement and has better gameplay and balance, i am tempted to go and get it. What do you reccommend?

IMO, both AoD and DH beat HoI3 any day. I personally prefer AoD, due to its better logistics system, advanced sliders and some other stuff. Others prefer DH because it's faster, has a pretty map and some other stuff (too).

Ok, thanks for the tips. I suppose DH has a map with many more provinces? And AoD has the same number as vanilla HOI2? Its tempting with more provinces if its implemented well.
I like to play the game that has the best balance, like making Axis win some times and Allies some times, and complexity does not scare me.

Yes, DH has a map with more provinces in it by default. However if installing modifications is familiar\doesn't scare you too much there is old HoI2 map mod called the E3 converted to be AoD compatible which adds a lot of provinces, it's stable and perfectly functional. It has some bugs or things that still needs improvements but it's one way to improve overall gameplay.

Can't really make a comment comparing DH and AoD. I have only AoD and am playing mostly just mod called CORE on it with some personal graphical modifications from Tripartite pack.
It's a blast...

Yea, AoD + CORE is pretty awesome.

As for HOI3, I played it a few times but felt it was lacking in something that I couldn't quite put my finger on (along with all the bugs it had at release), so I stuck to the classic series.

AoD and DH are like HoI2. AoD has a bit more features, DH is really just a mod for HoI2. Don't expect something comparable with HoI3, it's really HoI2 improved. This place is for those who hate HoI3 and therefore are stuck to the older game.

I think every one of them has its pro's and con's.. ;)
With FTM HOI3 will sure make an additional big leap forward.(Maybe it will take one or two patches.. :p)
It has really some nice additions to the series. And also gets some more nice commands that allows for nice modding solutions.

But also DH has some nice commands for modding already that are mostly not used because it was first released as a "polished code of HOI2". So the "most" things that DH adds are not "visible/used" atm.

AoD has some nice new features too. And the Mods seem better adapted so far wich is not surprising as AoD is longer available.

And as DH and AoD together will be just a bit more expensive as FTM you could have both for the price of FTM..

So I suggest to read some AAR's and read the features of these 3.
Then you could decide what you like the most and if it is worth to wait for better adapted Mods that use the full potential of DH, the Add-on FTM with cool new features or if you could buy them all.. :D

Kind regards,
Chromos

Oh my god, AoD and Darkest Hour are both wonderful.. don't bother with HOI3. Darkest Hour needs a bit of work yet, but even now I think it stands as the most solid HOI game. Haven't tried IC yet though. I don't much care for CORE, that's just me, it just doesn't feel professional as far as quality and attention to detail are concerned (I think.)

You'd get at least six beer for that in my country. I thin Norway's so rich because she robs her citizens. :D

Oh well, its like 10£ for a decent beer (imported) out on a pub. Its cheaper for the danish/norwegian industrial beer in supermarket like 2£ or something so most people go for that.
But anyway 70% of the beer is government fees, only 30% of the beer is brewery/pub costs. Thats how the government rob us. - through our drinking habits!

And I thought I'd heard them all, by now... But that certainly is a new one regarding what CORE is all about. Naturally it's all a matter of taste whether you like our work or not, but we've put in a lot of time and effort to get as much detail and historical accuracy into the game in the first place.

Come to the Philippines! You can buy a good San Miguel beer for 0.39 euro from any store (chilled) or sit in an air con entertainment bar where Happy Hour beer price is slightly under one Euro (and that includes watching oddles of sexy dancers performing). 10 Euro is like 614 pesos for which I can buy a New York steak dinner, or get a budget room, or possibly even ....... Now I understand why all the Scandinavians I've met here were mostly constantly drunk. They were trying to save money. :p

I bought a $6 dollar hand craved rocking chair once. It was a pain getting it through customs though.

You should have stayed here and rocked it here! Yah, I miss home too sometimes, especially when it is as hot as it is here now. Can't wait for the rains to come.
