which hearts of iron should I buy?

Hi guys I am a newbie here and I want to buy hearts of Iron, but which one ? I love WW 2 and mainly would play as germans/usa but I am confused over the games descriptions .Can I play as germans in Dooms day ? can I play all the way through till 1953? or should I get Hearts of Iron 2 for WW2 focus .Is doomsday just an add on to hearts of iron 2? what gives ? whats the best choice of these two games for some one who wants to play WW2 even if it goes till 1984? Thanks confused

Yes. Doomsday (and Armageddon) has everything that the basic HOI-2 has, plus new units, new techs, new Espionage and Diplomatic options, better AI, and an extended time-frame.

You can still play all the original HOI-2 campaigns (1936 campaign, 1939 scenario, 1944 scenario, etc) but the time-frame now extends into the 60's

... Is doomsday just an add on to hearts of iron 2?

It's a new stand-alone game that is firmly based on the original HOI-2 and shares the same game-engine and much of the same code.

I have to disagree, he should buy Hearts of Iron Anthology, it comes with HoI 1, HoI 2, Doomsday and Armageddon. It also comes with a a shiny medal and a map.

I bought arma first, anthology came later and I bought it for the medal.

I say HoI anthology , it has it all and comes it doesn't cost so much anymore.

Do what I did. 1. Buy the retail version in 'false" local language (I live in Germany). 2. Regret action no 1. 3.Order an english plain vanilla HOI2 from Amazon. 4.Realise that you are missing something by not playing HOI 2 Doomsday. 5.Order a HOI 2 Anthology DVD as well. 6.Give away the 2 first copies to friends whose wifes will promptly call u a "bastard" in church.
