I guess you mean detailed as in game play not textures etc.

Good detail and good graphics? Maybe something a bit like, I don't know, HoI4....

Not really sure I get the point of this thread.

I will be fine with HoI IV but I have some fear about the simplified technologies trees and the tree ending in 1946 some says it's 1948 but I have never seen one tree going up to 1948 all I have seen are capped in 1946...

The technology system togther with the variant system and doctrine system offers more interesting choices then its HOI3 counterpart.

I don't see how graphics will reduce detail because the people that work with graphics are not the same as the people that work with detail. Sure people cost money but more people on an area do not mean a better product. I think the game is good as it is currently.

Well not sure In Hoi3 with just one edit on the number of repeatable research you could end up with tanks/planes/ships highly superior to their 1945 counterpart on every points. While in HoI Iv it seems that you will just end with a unit barely superior in one point but globaly same if not inferior on the other points. Still I want to see it with my eyes before putting down my judgement.

And what is more interesting:
  • A system in which you can leave you research focused in a few areas all game and get super units
  • A system that is based on tradeoff in which you can develop good but not super units
The current system allow you to develop stuff like the Zero while in the old system such things seldom make sense.

Well to me, it's focus on a few area of the game and get a real advantage in that sector to the price of lack in other sectors than a system giving everyone the same unit with little difference between nations.

Maybe I'm wrong but how I see the new research system is like it has been developped to allow any nation to go easily through all research and end in the last year of the game with all the same developement. This allowing anyone to play minor nations like latvia, switzerland, Greece, turkey and all that kind ending in 1945 with their own jet fighter, heavy tanks and rockets ... while to me this should only be available for some major nations. so yes clearly play as you want Turkey while I play let say USA I will simply own you on the technology field.

Yes Greece maybe could research a jet fighter but they only start with 3 research slots so have to tradeoff other national focii to get the research shows and the dedicate a lot of time to get there. Also they have to build them, so whilst you may be able to get the tech building them will probably be very hard and a massive waste of time.

That's what I find it stupid... how Greece can have 3 research slot while nations like Germany or the USA will be capped at 5..... That's just bullsh.t.... Reasearch slot should be more based on development, size be it from their starting size or by conquer, population.... so yes small, tiny nations would be limited to 3/4 research slots while industrial nations should have like 30 slots.... That's just my 2 copper... Whatever if it is so I already have planned how to get over that.... Edit the tech giving +1 research slot in giving + X research slot, put that tech in the already researched for my nation and turn its research cost into an insane one so no other nation could achieve it..

But enough with that SORRY OP.... back on your choice I mostly often prefer details, depht in game than visual overlay.

Is it 5? Thought it was 6 for the majors but I'm pretty unsure about that.

the game already looks great, and has a lot of detail, it seems we get both :D

@grandad1982 research slots are capped at 5, but various national focuses that the majors get can make them excel in areas that the minors or other majors might not

From the look of it, HoI4 is more detail and snazzier graphics (and sound - see the latest DD :D). While I'm sure there will be some of us that wouldn't mind a bit more detail in specific areas of personal interest, I'd say that on-balance, the level of detail in the game is very good. I'd also say that the visuals for a strategy game are excellent.

So I'm not sure we have to choose an either/or proposition here. OP - a bit more specificity wouldn't hurt - do you mean "even more detail at the expense of graphics" (as, while the people doing graphics are different to coders, there's budgets and the like so it is theoretically possible to have less artists/modellers and more coders/designers)? My personal view is that they've got a very good balance, but everyone will have their own preference of course.

I am very sure, however, that as Mannstein well said, we're a bit past that point now, unless we want the game delayed until 2018!
