Concerning that, I actually read a rather interesting explanation once.
The Cimbri did not go after Rome after the battle of Arausio for the simple reason that they had no interested in it (After all, it was not that much of a worldspanning empire at the time). According to said theory, they were planning on uniting the Celtic world (The Cimbri were, I have been told anyway, a Germanic people with a Celtic elite).

Its ludicrous to think that a more agrassive Cimbi after Arausio would have destroyed Rome. Hannibal could not do so while scant miles away and certainly not the Cimbri. Yes, they could have pillaged and burned their way to Rome but at that time the vet African Legions would be home already with Marius at its head instead of still playing around Numidia.

I would like to play an Iberian or Celtriberian nation and see how it goes from there.
