When you start up Vicky 2, you can choose to start in either 1836 or 1861. But when I look at the files I only see one set. How does it know which files are for which year?

The historical setup for each nation is in the "history" text file or something like that. Inside there are two different sets of values: one for 1836 and one for 1861.

I saw the file for that. I was wondering how the game took the starting date into account for population, factories, navies, etc..
Province history shares the same file for both start dates and have an extra entry for extra start dates. Diplomacy, country history, units, and wars also share files. POP history has two separate folders. The game sees the date and has to associate it to a date in bookmarks.txt in the common folder.
