Well, as Poland I didnt have that big problems. I went with the most favorable events in the long time perspective, and went against the nobles. Also, I constantly batteled to centralize the country and go against serfdom.

And it worked. Having expanded my country quite significantly, grabbing three provinces from Bohemia once they left the catholic fold, a few Magyar provinces, some teutonic ones, and I was on easy street. Because of this, the polish provinces were still quite valuable, making me one of the most advances land tech countries, despite going almost 50% infra.

Might as well make the best of the double post to congratulate UBootMan on bringing this thread back. And I take the opportunity to say I love the Polish events. They have that "completely oblivious to game events" characteristic to them.

I think the Swedish events are quite good but the best events belong to the Dutch. Starting with the massive RR events, the unification events, the CoT event, ... Especially given the impact of these events on such a small country.

However players don't get these events, which is a pity.

I like England & Ottoman events.
France is too easy.
Spain is always "innovative -1, -2"
Austria, too easy.
Rusia, good, also.
China, never able to finish the game.
I should try Holland.

Well, it's not a bad idea to glance over the history of the country you're planning to play as beforehand...or at least check the events file, lol.

Russia has good events... the OE, not. OK, it has a few really good ones... but from about 1600 and forth it gets many really bad events, (like the "Beys"-events or the nationalism-events)

surely best events for habsburgs, i remember my very first mp game when i chose them, and doing absolutely nothing, having bb=0 entire game, take few provs from ottos, only lately diploannex bavaria and venezia, i finished on3rd place, when there was 5 human players - spain and russia ahead, and france, turks and swedens behind , though we all was newbies anyway.... ah good old times
