Which country will you take for a spin first?

When a new PI game comes out, I usually choose a country that will give me a good view of the action without being too horribly involved so I can simply watch how the game goes for my first game. When HoI3 comes out, I'm thinking either Haiti or Ireland with some nofog (or equivalent) will be for me.

What about you fine folks?

Mmmm, I'm thinking about Australia.
It's a powerful (relatively) country, but it's not very involved, so you have some freedom of move and choice.

I'll probably take Canada on my first play. They're large and decently powerful, but far away enough from the action to be safe.

When I looked, it wasn't in the first, second, third, or fourth page, so I figured it was a safe thing to make. If a mod feels like merging it with an existing thread, then cool - no issues with that.

Anywho... Brazil just came to mind, too. Lots of opportunity for expansion, so long as you keep the U.S. happy...

I'll probably go spain. The civil war offers a good chance to play around with combat before I get too far in the game and they're close enough to the main action and powerful enough that I can join in if I feel comfortable enough or just watch if I'm still not up to the comfort level I want.

As Britain, hopefully it will let me get a good idea of the game and somehow get them Facist/Communist before the war.

I'll start with some minor - off hand game.
Germany - I almost only play as Reich. In the first game ill try to postpone Barbarossa for a year and do not proclaim war on the US.
Japs later - I'll try not to attack US but only fight with UK.
Poland - I'll join the axis (even at the cost of Danzig) and get Belarussia and Ukraine during Barbarossa.
Finland - full scale cooperation with Germans in USSR. Murmansk - Archangielsk.
Nationalist Spain - Axis: Gibraltar, Marocco, West Africa (maybe Portugal with colonies)
USA - Axis? If its possible or a lone wolf trying to get it all!
Turkey - Ottoman Empire (Axis)

Germany definitely. I remember when I first played HOI2 I didn't play a game as Germany for a long time, just Blighty and Japan then when I finally started a game as Germany I never played another country for ages.

Excelent choice , in fact my first game will be with Chile, but I'm going to mod some things so Bolivia and Peru gets more agressive, that would be something nice to start, and maybe I will join the allies and send some divisions to the front . After that, I think that Canada, then some major (must surely the UK), and then Germany.
