Where's the Xeno-Linguistics technology ?

Flicking through the wiki, seems there's a whole bunch of leaders that I've not encountered ever.
Says they have a chance to appear once the "Xeno-Linguistics" technology is researched.

But I can't find a technology with that name, or with the icon it shows for it.

Wot?

Can someone help me work this out ?

After you make your first First Contact it'll be available as a guaranteed research option iirc.

If I remember correctly, it's a Society technology that becomes a permanent research option when you first open comms with another empire.

The game does a terrible job at explaining this, so don't worry.

Ah, I think I might have worked it out then...

I've not got that tech, because I've been playing a game where I started with 0 AI countries. So... never engaged in a First Contact with a "playable empire" type.

Releasing a vassal might fix this.

Still, learned something interesting about how to break the game by doing something weird.

And if you aren't finding new ways to get into strange situations, are you even playing a Paradox grand strategy game ?

The reason I suggested it is because releasing vassals solves a similar issue with Here Be Dragons.

In the Here Be Dragons origin, you can only make first contact with the dragon after you’ve met 3 other empires. Releasing vassals counts and is the only way to continue the event chain if there are no other empires on the map.

It is indeed interesting - I wonder if this also means Lost Colony origins don't unlock it when encountering their former metropole.
