In real life, Dan needs three and a half cups. I almost bit on 4 but my spider sense started tingling... tricky tricky

Thanks for the gameplay advice! I'll definitely try branching out from the Arano Restoration pocket area and see if that opens up some options.
YW for the advice
and... you are the first person to answer the question correctly.

Quick Edit: Now I have to change my Sig darnit!

There's a slight issue with the wording of the problem. "One and a half times larger" isn't the same as "half again the size (150%)" because it uses the word "larger". If it is 1.5 times larger then the whole cake is 250% the size of the original cake. 2.5 * 2.33 = 5.83 cups of flour. :)

erm... at the risk of being pedantic... 1 x 1.5 (aka one and a half times larger) is equal to 1 x 1.5 and... you failed to solve to the nearest Tenth anyway.

You failed by main and not paying attention to details.

Would like to know... how can a Cake... that needs to be slightly larger... suddenly becomes 3 x normal size :)

No. 1 x 1.5 is one and a half times as large - not one and a half times larger.

One and a half is 1.5, which is 150%. So one and a half times larger is 150% larger (150% additional) - therefore a total of 250%.

It becomes more clear if you use an amount less than 100%.

A cake that is 50% as large will be half the size of the original cake.
A cake that is 50% larger will be one and a half the size of the original cake.

Why not. I'm a gluten for punishment

I'm now starting to wonder if there's a dad joke jail of some sort somewhere. Or maybe something like a Shaolin monastery where you can perfect your art.

Preferably somewhere on a mountain far away.

With a vow of silence.

Yeah, if that place doesn't exist it should. Wonder what we'd call it... ;)

and supposedly if we ever get the 4th one....we are supposed to also get all 4 novellas as a single novel.
Yes but not until the consolidated novel goes through 24 months of editing to combine the novellas.

A bit surreal to have my answer pointing to this thread get merged into the thread itself. Understandable, given that there's no good reason to keep two threads going about the exact same topic, but still surreal.
Surreal would be finding out all of our fine moderators are not really real at all and are in fact manifestations of consciousnesses spawned by the fledgling Paradox AI......no...that's too deep...i think i have to back out of that thinking....

Except you originally said you couldn't count on your tactics 9 pilots.

Of course you can, to the the degree at least (and even more in this game) that the IP has ever allowed such under an rng. (and boosted even with called shots and resolve skills) If the ask is for mathematical certainty, well that's not traditionally a part of this IP that is rng based.

As mentioned it's at least easier to account for on an old version bulwark mech than an evading one as your submitting to less variables what with it having been stationary.

We're losing discussion context here. Our initial topic replied to was damage mitigation ( "assured math" and "burning through bukwark") Then it became difficulty to obtain salvage due to "bad luck". In this game you can by plan make some of your own luck though.

Never being totally 100% certain of specific location damage but being able to skew the odds at least through tactics was always baked into the product. This is just as true for attempts at gaining favorable damage spreads as it is for defending against them.
Though at least in a (old style) non evading bulwark you can be certain of how many hits to that location will do the job down to the point.
Under evasion you cannot because so much more of that will be outright misses though what hits will be full damage excepting cover.

This is why I believe under 1.3 (if defensive minded) many will consider to spec both skills on the same pilot than previously.

Broadly we're members of the same congregation here, but the maths on evasion isn't really all that hard compared to Bulwark. It's perfectly possible to math things out be able to guarantee you'll cripple a target because you just multiply the chance to hit into the damage dealt: 50% to hit is the same as 50% DR on 100% to hit. The only trick is to make sure you're multiplying the percentages. To work out damage by region you then multiply in the chance to hit each location, and that's the percentage of the damage you'll expect in each region.

The biggest wrinkle is that damage dealt has a "grain" depending on the damage of the weapons being used.

@HBS Feature Request: can you translate this onto the paper doll during targeting to show me how much damage I can expect to do and where?

Actually, I think I might add that into the Q&A question queue when I can.
