That's were I'm going. East Africa is a lot of fun to play in - so many cultures, races and religions all in close proximity. Plus the Great Green Blob nearby to keep you on your toes. And besides the still bugged Warrior Queens, Nubia's culture, and its religion, are really great.

In 769 Burghutal and Toledo are fun since because there's a real sense of tension and time-limitedness to grow more powerful after you win the initial war in the face of Asturias in the North and the Ummayads in the South both of whom are more powerful than you. I'd use the Ummayad collapse game rule to make them more stable as well, they'll still split on succession but there will still be a challenge. Burghutal is also a good contender for forming Portugal while Toledo is a good contender for Mozarabic reformation (if you convert). Not to mention the fact that you get access to the struggle mechanics.

For 1066 I'd say one of the minors in Tibet. It's not a very often played region but I think there's an interesting dynamic at play where there're several strong powers on the periphery of the region and a few stronger players within it to skirt around and you get to have Ghengis Khan as your final boss. In particular, I'd pick a character from one of the unreformed faiths just to give you that initial goal of reforming. Dzayul is the strongest that fits the bill while the most challenging would likely be the count of Shgvini (1 county, every surrounding faith including liege hostile, different heritage and language to most of the region.....but at least you're feudal and culture head?)

Karlings in 1066 provide interesting RP opportunities.

Other than that... maybe play as a tribe in the east/north. Vikings!

Attempting to undermine the Seljuks/Fatimids (in 1066) or the Abbasids (in 867 or 769) could be fun if you want to play Muslims.

I dont think they consider it broken, faith overrides it. However what they could do is make coptic equal. Isnt Nubia the only one?

The problem is that you can effectively adopt the inheritance law but you can't grant titles to people according to it, and it's affecting also the Visigothic codes tradition. I think regional traditions should override religion while the standard Equal tradition should work as those regarding marriage, with the religious head asking you to revert to more ortodox customs.

If it isn't bugged then it isn't working as intended. And it does effect some others.

The issue is that Coptic is male dominated, which means that you an only give titles to men, only make men councillors and female rulers have opinion penalties. However you are locked into female preference for succession laws, resulting in pretty much nothing but female rulers at all levels. Given the troubles the AI has with matrilineal marriages, they soon lose them. And none of them like each other as they all get onion penalties due to being Coptic, even though they are all female anyway. It needs some fixing.

Nubia it is, then! I've only played there once. And I like Islam a lot. I would have to read a bit about that period though, since I only know a bot about Ethiopia at that time. Thanks all!

Have fun.

What I like about the region is that due to the mix of Pluralism and Communal for Coptic and Xenophilia for Nubian, it makes for stable multicultural realms. You can have a real mix of cultures and even religions and not get torn apart from conflicts. There is a fun trick using Communal - when you have out land, give it to a noble of the local culture but your religion. Because they are of the local culture they convert the land way faster due to the bonuses from Communal. If you tried using your realm priest or if you appointed someone from you culture then you'd have a big penalty to conversion.

Can you take the decision as an Anglo-Saxon?
Yep. Restrictions are Western or Northern (Norse) Germanic and before High Middle Ages. Must hold England, Norway, and Denmark for 30 years. And hold North Sea heartlands. Cnut was just a few years short of fulfilling the Paradox requirement.
