To Strategy First's defense, they DID pay for a few magazine ads for HoI.

those are bogus pubs, theres more and bigger pubs in benelux, hell every major soft comp has her own pubs in benelux....i just belive paradox is managed by friends n family's .....u wont lay of ur friend or sister would ya.....
again it looks like faulty management to me,why couldnt you have it published in all western nations localized or not,you have a FULL YEAR to acomplish it.......still a farce to me.hell idd translate it if i had to im sure theres more people who would do that in holland flanders south africa surinam indonesia netherlands antilles.......
least they could do is have it on a site like bol.com or shit its the local amazon over here,in english for that matter and have it patched to localize it or something, again im saying zimbabwe doesnt sound to bad im packing ....:):):):)

If that would help, I would love to "lobby" at fora of possible Benelux publisher to get Victoria here, but except for Hasbro, those all seem to be small unknown board game developers, not computer game publishers. AFAIK there simply are no native Belgian publishers, so if you would want Victoria published in Belgium, you have to contact some international company. Today I had a look at the strategy games section in a computer store. Names of (I think) publishers I encountered were among others EA Games, UbiSoft, Sierra, Wanadoo, hell even Strategy First. Why can't one of these be contacted? Does Paradox have some principle only to work with (unexisting) local Belgian publishers or something?

Play Napoleon, Fredrick the great and Joan of Arc in this volatile FPS, featuring The unique monsters based on real imagined horrors of the dark ages as well as Jacobites and revolutionaries!

Well, it could be worse...they could start making fishing games instead. :)

I have to admit that I find the lack of any reference to Victoria on a lot of the online game sites strange?.

Made be it's a marketing ploy for a big satuared campaign in November:)

when you speak of a publisher not advertising vicky you have to remember that this game has a limited market. look at playstation 2 and its games. every 5 to 25 year old in the u.s. would love to have it and all the games with it. we have to promote pc strategy programs that make people think a little, not mindless trash so that they can get away from everyday problems. then thats probably its biggest sale quality. i personally love strategy games, my child will grow up on them. but we as a consumer have a responcibility to go out and push for the product. demand and cash usually produce!

Complain to them all

I'm certainly willing to complain here and there, but it would be useless to complain to eg Strategy First if there's no chance in hell they would ever publish in Belgium. So I'd like to know some possible Belgian publishers from Paradox they were thinking about which don't want to publish right now, but perhaps might do it after all of sufficient people (for example all Belgian and Dutch Paradox forum members - that should be quite a few) ask them to publish Victoria.

myces2000:

IIRC the civ series were usually not considered very easy to learn as well. Still they sold well AFAIK. With the proper marketing I don't see why a game like Victoria couldn't sell just as much.

The civ games were much easier to learn, and appealed to a larger audience. It was a mainstream product (but I loved the series nevetheless....until Paradox came along that is)

I think that Paradox should try to promote themselves in history magazines, and various life style magazines for a more mature audience.

I agree with that...

I believe that the average Paradox player, is older that for other games. I think ads, focusing on this group of people might work.
Maybe some ads in Student magizines for Humaniores? History etc. I can think of a lot people there playing these games!

It's a bit different with for instance first person shooters: there you start making the game with the graphic engine. You can awe a person playing with it for 20 minutes just by showing a flying eagle. But there isn't much graphics-wise in Paradox games, the game must be balanced and ready before anybody can make up their mind about it.

I couldn't agree more. I can't tell you how many games "in the early stages" get rave reviews at E3 or other gaming conventions, and then are dogs when they come out or never come out at all.

Well I would imagine that Paradox tried to get the game published as widely as possible. Why wouldn't they - they'd make more money?

However even if every Dutch / Belgian forum member bought the game how many would that be? A thousand? Probably small beer for the major publishers.

What I don't understand is why Paradox don't offer their own mail order service? Or even better a pay per download. OK it would be broadband only but it would still be better than nothing.

The civ games were much easier to learn

Really? IIRC it took me some four years of civing before I dared play on the highest difficulty level. EU2 I played on Very Hard my second game, after in my first game I easily ruled half the world with Denmark on normal difficulty level. Though of course that may simply be because I'm better at any kind of strategy game right now.

and appealed to a larger audience. It was a mainstream product

But why couldn't Victoria be made into a mainstream product for a larger audience like the civ series became?

So no one saw the ad-campaign on the Discovery Network for HoI? Actually I think they showed the intromovie and some additional footage as the commercial but it was rather neat seeing an add for a game *I* like :p

Beacuse it´s not as pretty. :(

Byt, you´re of course right...I should not be pessimistic. Maybe folks are ready for this kind of entertainment.

But it´s not easy for Paradox when reviewers, like the German one, more or less scare them off by saying that it is very hard to learn, and master. And that the graphics are bleak, and so on. :(

a game like vicky and a videogame are two different things. its like driving a corvette and a corsair. vicky is a game for the mature gamer, while videogames are just for the gamer with short attention spans! i still say we are a market place force. together we can promote the games we would like to see on the market.
