Yes, the swedish version of PC Gamer (licensed from the UK one) had an article in the news section, right beneath CoD.
And I do recall a full page ad for HoI last year, maybe it is just pan vision but it sure was nice to see.

It doesn't mean anything.

I must admitt that the lack of a preview or any hype is of concern. Why would they not want the game mags to preview this game. I hope it isn't because they were afraid of a bad review. I have been suffering from sleepless nights in anticipation of this game and hope for more sleepless nights when it is fitted to my computer. The lack of outside previews does make one wonder.

I think Paradox has done the right thing by focusing first on finishing the game not hyping it. I don't see a need to pre-view a game, why let somebody bash an unfinished product? When it's done, send it to reviews and see what happens.

It's a bit different with for instance first person shooters: there you start making the game with the graphic engine. You can awe a person playing with it for 20 minutes just by showing a flying eagle. But there isn't much graphics-wise in Paradox games, the game must be balanced and ready before anybody can make up their mind about it.

Hype can completely destroy games! Anybody rember the hype surrounding Republic the Revolution, or that of Empire Earth, so much was promised, and so little was worth it.

Vicy appears very good, because of it's for runners (and that released ingame video).

Anyway, as long the strategy is good and the gameplay is good, vicy will always be sucessful, in our eyes anyway...

Well...the game went gold last week...and I´m sure they did not want the magazines review a beta version.

I am sure you are right. They didn't want a Beta reviewed. Still, most of the publications that do previews, are rather gentle on the product, unless it is really flawed or underperforming. It could be they will just let the product speak for itself in final form, but by the time many find out about it the peak sales season will be over.
I have mentioning this to many surprised devotees of the period. They have never heard of it. (There are games on the internet that cover the same period and a number of folks are always surprised. I hope they will at least do some advertising very soon, since the release date is nearing. The more it sells, the better chance for more games in this neglected period.

And concerning "being too good to be hyped"...if this game sells poorly, Paradox might not consider making another game on EU engine. Besides, it is not true that hype always marks a poor game...Morrowind's a great game, after all, even though it was probably the most hyped game in history of CRPGs.

It should be noted that Victoria, IIRC, is not written on the EU engine; I remember Patric saying it had its own engine.

Also, what was said in that manual joke is true. Reviewers don't have time to sit for hours first reading a manual, then delving in to the Vicky experience.

We do, though, and we'll love every page, and every second... :D ;)

one thing that i notice is that HOI got a lot of attention, i saw a couple ads and they had their own minisite on the wargamer. they had a lot of previews and yet vic has nothing. maybe they will wait until 1.01 for the reveiws but seeing the aar's, a preview would surly be alright.

Remeber Victoria and HOI are two different games, set in two different time periods. Especially in the States, anything based on WWII will garner more attention than a 19th century grand strategy game.

If Victoria's good, the rest will take care of itself.

Yep, but fact that the American Civil War is the game will probably help increase interest in the states... at least that's what I'm hoping.

I somehow doubt that Victoria has its' own engine...granted, there are various systems added to the engine, but the fundamental engine remains similar to HoI (divisions, world market), although vastly improved.

Unfortunately all of Paradox’s games are seriously ‘under-hyped’ outside of Europe. At EB Games they have a board on the wall that tracks new releases up until January of next year including some stupid Mario game but no Vicky. The guys working there had never heard of the game. I had the same problems with EU and EU2 (sorry didn’t play the others)...

IIRC, this thread has some recommendations for Netherlanders and Belgians who want to purchase the game on-line in another country and have it shipped to them.

Or you could at least add your name to the petition. ;)

As I've said before, if you want there to be a publisher for Victoria in a country that doesn't currently have one, you're better off expressing your interest in the game to a publisher in that country than complaining to Paradox, which can't force someone to publish their game.

Can you give some examples of Belgian or Dutch publishers we can complain to? Isn't it usually some international company that publishes it?
