where is the war?

my first game on the new 2.04, im playing as the USA
japan is wreaking havoc to the east of them, but its now feb 1942 and still no war! is it gonna happen? my neutrality is 87%, and the biggest threat to me is BRITAIN, with 2%, is there a way i van entice the japs into a fight, or will they just kick the war off when they feel like it!!!

Looks like they are doing fine and don't want to make the mistake of waking a sleeping giant, especially if their forces are tied up in the east.

If it's really important for you to have certain events occur as they did historically you are better off starting the game at a date after such things happened.

Usual procedure: Use spies to a) get their threat up and b) reduce your own neutrality.

The problem with Japan is that it runs out of rares and fuel around 1940, and ai never then dow usa or allies. However once i edited savegame and gave them all resources japs dowed usa in 1941 december

It's a shame, as from memory, weren't the embargoes why Japan went to war - to get resources it required?

Japan's threat is really that low? In my current game, Japan got stuck near Chongqing and Guangzhou, and has been there for about 2 years. It's the Summer of 1940 now, and Japan's threat to the US is something like 260, without any spying being done by me or the AI.

The fun thing about the game is that even if you play same country two times in a row, there will probably be different outcomes. Japan is not always declaring war toward USA, specially if they think that they can't beat them.

In my current (2.04d) games as Finland, Japan has decleared war on the Allies (including the USA) and, last time I looked, was doing okay.

Or if they lack the threat to be able to declare war. Since they don't have a decision for that, they must do it manually, and if you start the game in '36, they won't have a low enough Neutrality and a high enough Threat to start the war. If you start a later campaign, they will automatically start with 0 Neutrality because they are already at war in China.

Really? JAP starts at 60 Neutrality and Marco Polo gives -40, that plus the "bonus" threat from being in the Axis should mean they could DoW even if the USA has 0 threat.

-40?! Then that's fixed already I guess They have a -10 penalty for being on a different continent, but building five threat against the USA should be easy as pie.

You know, this is actually kinda disturbing to me, because in my AAR, my intention was to get the USA into the Axis, and if the stupid Japanese DoW them before I could do so... I would side with the Americans in that case if I could

Oh, well. I just checked and the USA is now drifting away because of threat anyway. They will have to go down then Ah, whatever
