I need to stop trade from going through a certain star system. I've searched for the answer and there's several posts mentioning a "restrict movement" button to the left of the system name panel in the system view.
I've looked and looked but I can't see anything like that. To the right of the name panel there's the galaxy map button, to the left there's the government button, and further to the left there's the "home" "science" and "construction" ship buttons. Help, thanks!

go into the system. there will be a panel in the bottom...I guess with the name of the system. the button you seek is on the left side of that panel. (not sure if it'll help you with trade though, cuz after few games I decided that I don't like new piracy, and now i'm collecting trade only in the capitol starbase(+6 jumps from trade hubs)

Hmm, this is confusing... In my games, the button is very obvious, right next to the system name at the bottom of the screen. But in some screenshots I'm seeing online, the button is just missing. Could you upload a screenshot of when you are in one of your systems? Perhaps then we could help.

It is not available for systems you own I believe.

Yes, I do own it. I've just checked some non-owned system, and I can see the restrict button (next to the claim, button, right?) It's definitely not there in systems you own.

Here's the problem. Damia is routing trade through Wir Thosk, and that's where I'm patrolling.

I have some systems further to the "east" and they are routing their trade through Egirarvis.

I don't want them to do that, I want those system to go through Wir Thosk as well, so I don't have to patrol both.

If you route the trade from the east to Damia, then it should all be added together and sent on along one route.

I did notice that I could route the trade to Damia, and saw the the glowy line stopped there, so I wasn't 100% sure if it carried on back to Earth. Thanks for the information, I'll set it up that way.
Trade a station receives from a Trade Route is just added to it's "collected" value and send on.

FYI, you are not supposed to protect trade with Fleets. Starbase Weapons Modules (Trade Protection + Trade Protection Range) are teh primary way.
You can also line the trade route with Stations, as Piracy is not tracked for Systems with Stations.
And lategame of course you got Gateways.

That is a bizarre false equivalence. There are frequently times where it’s more cost effective to use a patrol. Especially since you should have corvettes anyway. Investing precious starbase cap in hangar bastions is a significant choice. Chucking 3 ‘Vettes onto a patrol is cheap and often does the job.

Except the Vettes also take up your Naval Cap and have Alloy Maintenance, so longtime they cost more.
And depending on how long the route is, they can not even supress piracy reliably.
As Pirates can spawn the Moment Current Piracy > Trade Protection, they only help to keep it below the Trade Proteciton treshold.

Patrols are only there to take the Edge off, until you got the resoruces for the Bases to permanently deal with it.

Or just use both, with starbases in frontier sectors and extra patrols in the inner part of your trade network where trade value exceeds what starbases can do?

Or, you know, just park 1 Corvette in each system as they reduce piracy as long as they are there, so it never gets the chance to build up anyway.

if I build a trade route in my games (which is rare cuz it's easier to get 1 starbase that'll collect all trade(and eliminate trade everywhere else)) I usually build shipyards along the way. so my fleet will serve as anti-piracy measure. and in the rest systems along the way I just put few naked corvette fleets that'll suppress piracy without even moving. it's better then spending energy on some modules that are useless(piracy spawns even with them sometimes). better replace them with anchorages.

I mentioned a bunch of those ideas (and more) before people just started to disagree:
FYI, you are not supposed to protect trade with Fleets. Starbase Weapons Modules (Trade Protection + Trade Protection Range) are teh primary way.
You can also line the trade route with Stations, as Piracy is not tracked for Systems with Stations.
And lategame of course you got Gateways.

I guess teh rest of the post indicate that Piracy supression could use a minor rework, so you can not just park a single Vette in a Sytem to supress it all?

Yep. This is also why I stopped bothering with tiny amounts of trade in non-starbase systems. Why waste time and effort collecting 4 trade in a random system when I need to invest effort to protect it?

The amount of piracy I see doesn't even work with that strategy, unless I'm putting big fleets of corvettes on suppression duty.

The amount of trade you can generate can be huge at times, and if the trade is not in your home system, it's got to move somehow.

I have to agree with the Founder on this one. At a certain point to trade amount, until you have gateways, you need starbases to deal with pirates. Gigantic starbases with hanger bays in key places. With enough overlap, you can wipe piracy out even with huge amounts of trade.

The amount of trade you can generate can be huge at times, and if the trade is not in your home system, it's got to move somehow.
the first point is the reason I use corvettes instead of starbase modules. trade always rising..and so is piracy. modules are just not enough from the start.
senod point is the reason why I try to concentrate all of my trade in home system+6range. so 1 starbase could cover it all(resettling conquered planets helps a lot...too bad you can terraform then to something unusable in a process)

4 Trade would actually not be an issue.
Max Piracy seems to be 1/4 of Trade Value passing through.
The base protection is 2 for any owned System. So easily 8 Trade value can pass through any given system without requiring any protection.

Base protection goes to 7 (28 save trade) with the Diplomacy Tradition.

Yes, but why bother putting trade collection hubs in starbases to collect trade in adjoining systems when you could just put another hanger there and protect another gigantic chunk of trade in the late game. Pick up 8 trade, or protect 36 existing trade?
