Yeah, Performance is maybe the wrong word.
Still imo, the 85mm D-5 L/51 didn't had the same performance as the 8.8cm KwK36 L/56. The 85mm S-53 L/54.6 (ZiS) probably had, but than again the Tiger I was running around on the battlefield around september/october 1942, while the 85mm ZiS variant was only available from january 1944. This is a two year gap.

But than we are comparing orange with apples, as the the 85mm was mounted on a cheaper and faster chassis.

What I would like to see in HoI4 and if the Piercing value from TFH is still in HoI4. (Personally I think the piercing and armour value's are a great addition, not everybody agrees about this), is that the piercing value is linked to the tank gun. So if a heavy tank has the same gun as a medium tank.
I.e: KV-85 -- T-34/85 -- SU-85, their piercing value should be the same, in HoI3 vanilla this isn't the case. That's why I modded it.

Ofcourse I agree that the flavour names should be there, otherwise modders can't mod/alter it. Imo Paradox always neglected land/air/naval models a bit, probably because they have limited time/budget and there are more important things to work on like a great military AI.

In one of the first dev. diaries, one of the coders not Podcat or Darkrenown posted a sample of the code for the tank tech tree / tank models. It's fantastic, beautiful things will be modded for HoI4.

Oh god yes. I've always wanted to see what would happen if i chose porsche designs over henchel, or if some prototype tanks would actually enter combat in mass production

OR AN ENTIRE E-SERIES OF GERMAN TANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously there was a time gap between the guns. Obviously they are not 100% identical.

However, If we want a real "tree" where all countries have similar stuff at same year, we simply have to assume that some countries were less advanced, and thus fielded their stuff ahead of time(T-34) or behind time(KV-85). Then, it works ok, we just have to assume that German invasion did distrupt Soviet reserch quite a bit(which it did).

What realy made the difference in Performance was the Optic sights which were deployed with them. If I remember correctly the German optimal sights were superior to the Soviet sights.

I read some report on that a while back which i sadly lost the link to. German optics wasnt really superior tech wise (maybe marginally) but it was much easier and more intuitive to use

Still seems like a lot of people are asking for/expecting HOI4: World of Tanks (with The Mighty Jingles).

Please. God. Make. It. Not. So.

You will have no tanks, due to lack of cooper for their engines. That is a sad reality.

In the begining of war, yes. Largely due to Soviets having insufficent production capability to make new optics. Later in the war, it equalised.

It`s not just the optic itself, German optic layout was far better. Later, in T-34-85 notably, Soviets did largely copy the way German comander sights were layed out, thus being equal.

The reason I put the KV-2 there is that its time-wise more appropriate model and that the turret looks really cool. The turret makes it look distinct as well which is important, because most of the other russian tanks have very similar silhouettes and its not always easy to tell them apart.

The KV-2 might be cooler, but it doesn't really make sense anyway. It performed really badly in combat as someone said, and it was used for artillery purposes. I think the KV-1 also sort of got an unique enough appearence.
