OK, so i was watching a recording of the live-stream, and noticed something strange about the Russian tech tree....WHERE IS THE KV-1!?!?!??! I mean there is a KV-2 there but shouldn't there be a KV-1, it was a fairly important tank and if anything the KV-2 should be one of the different chassis modifications. Is there any explanations?

The KV-1 did have alot more relevance than the KV-2. But I am not sure what 'slot' it occupies? KV-1 should be one of the early heavy tanks though, maybe? After that, IS series.

Well like i said that the KV-1 would replace the KV-2 and the KV-2 would be one of the modification options or upgrades since it was based of the KV-1. Therefore we could have both

On the German tech tree where the KV-2 is the Tiger occupies so i don't know if it is just "Basic heavy tank slot"

Well if it's a choice between KV-1 or KV-2 obviously the first is preferable. An upgrade as you suggest does work too. I think the KV-2 actually had a specific purpose (the turret was more of an artillery piece?) and didn't serve as a heavy tank.

I thought the chassis's could serve more purposes than just the tank role (Could be wrong) Like off the pz III could come the Stug.=, or the Jagpanther off the panther etc.

Also yes, the KV-2 was more of an artillery piece, though there are a few minor cases of it being served in the "tank" role, but only a few

The KV-2 was built as an artillery piece. They used the KV-1 chassis and gave it a short 152 mm gun to fight against bunkers. Due to the large gun, the turret had to be a lot larger than that of the original KV-1, so they had to armor it even thicker (because it was alot more visible and an easy target). The tank was slow and had a very slow rate of fire, which was a huge disadvantage. The turret could only be turned very slowly. It was unable to effeciently fight German tanks, despite the fact the Germans couldnt penetrate its armor, but it could be an effective road block until the Germans shot it with dive bombers. When the Germans conquered the KV-2 production sites, the Soviets stopped producing the tank, even in their alternative production facilities, because it turned out to be a complete design fail. So yea... having it in the game and not the KV-1 is a very strage decision... but maybe they change that. They really should.

I think the KV-2 should be in-game just not taking up the main chassis slot

Yes the KV-1 should definately be in and not only because it is awesome looking, it was the main pre/early-war heavy tank. KV-2 could be a sub option like pzIII - stug.

It will be a bit wierd if you put the KV-1 ( production start 1940 tank ) in the same slot as the Tiger ( production start 1942 tank ).

As we can se the slot is historical year 1941

If you put the KV in that slot it needs to be the KV-1B ( 1941 ). It can be done using the same reasoning the German PZ IV is their 1941 model ( using a later variant of it as base model ).

Looking at production numbers and general role the KV-1 does fit alot better in the 1941 slot.

The upgunned '41 KV-1(B) would fit I guess. The KV-1S was kinda dumb and didnt really fill the role of heavy tank because of low armor.

The reason I put the KV-2 there is that its time-wise more appropriate model and that the turret looks really cool. The turret makes it look distinct as well which is important, because most of the other russian tanks have very similar silhouettes and its not always easy to tell them apart.

The reason I put the KV-2 there is that ........... the turret looks really cool.

You heard it here first people, things will be included solely due to their coolness.

I fully expect that by this time next month the devs will be unveiling a Nuclear Powered Pykrete SuperCarrier, capable of launching Tilt-Jet transport aircraft, which themselves can carry two superheavy walking tanks, piloted by psionic troopers in power armour! ;)
