Hello.

I control the entire Mediteranean coast - British Gibraltar and all of Egypt. Suddenly, there are dozens of US subs sinking my convoys - anyone know how they got in? I don't think they were there all along, I chased the RN out in 1940 and no convoy's been sunk in over 18 months, now - BOOM! all the time, and because Vichy France is so lame, I have to run oil to Northwest Africa or my tanks don't have anythig to drink.

Thanks,

Chris

I think subs can still get through the straits and canals... even though surface ships can't.

It shouldn't be that way of course, but try it with the Panama canal... test if your German subs can get through the American controlled canal.

i guess it represents them sneaking through.

Just send out you fleet to secure your convoy routes, and any sub stupid enough to try to sink anything will soon pay the ultimate price

IRL German subs were able to successfully sneak thru the Straits of Gibralter. They would submerge some distance away, dive to where the current was going their way, shut down as much equipment and machinery as possible and drift thru.

Makes sence that subs would be able to pass by Gibralter, as it's just straights, but the Panama Canal is a series of locks so the subs wouldn't be able to pass. Not sure about Suez though- does it have locks?
Yup, btw is it correct that the Gribraltar Strait is opened when Cueta is in allied hands?

Never seen it. My info came from 30 years of reading WWII history. As a rule of thumb I do not count anything I see in a movie as based on reality unless I have independant confirmation. :p

The author of the book the movie was based on actually was on a German U-boat (U-boot).

makes sense that they can go through straits. Subs sneaking through canal should be impossible. Even IF there was enough room to sneak a sub into a loch with a normal boat you'd be able to see it.

But I guess that explains what everybody means by the Panama Canal is broken threads I've seen.

As Germany when I have control of the Med. I station a few destroyers on the inside Sea Zones of both Gibralter and Suez. They usually spot any subs that come through and I send my naval bombers after them...

And Italian submarines went the other way, out into the Atlantic.

Oh, I'm sure the book is excellent and gives lots of information. But unless the author had final and absolute veto over the movie I don't trust ANY movie to be faithful to its source. As evidence I present.... Starship Troopers. <insert screaming in horror smilie>
