During the current game (Germany36). I had taken the low countries and had almost completed an encirclement from Paris to the Swiss border. Just prior for my selection choice for the French surrender - I picked "all metro areas". Several turns later the British annexed France (the French army disappeared) and now there are British units in their place. I had only one province to take next to the Swiss border to completely encircle between 45 - 50 British divisions (based on the approximations given). On June 22nd at 23:00 there was nothing to the West or South. On June 23rd at 00:00 there were about 25 British divisions that suddenly appeared.

1 - is this normal?
2 - what happened to the French surrender?
3 - where did all the British come from? (they couldn't JUST land in central France.

At the time I had 12 38t's, the starting infantry, 25 CAS, 8 TAC, 15 interceptors.

Any ideas as to what happened would be appreciated.

It's possible that they'd landed earlier and were SRing while the surrender offer was being finalised - but that's unlikely. When you say that the French army disappeared and that British units were "in their place" do you mean that the French units were replaced one for one with British?

Nope, thats a possibility of the french surrender event.
Historically a union between france and england was proposed that never happened. But it has a very small chance of occurance in DH, so what you encicled were probably the old french army that was now under control of eng. If you hadn't been fast enough those would have been evacuated out of europe.

Thanks for the ideas. I kind of suspected that the encircled "British" were the old French army. The biggest question I guess was how did 25 divisions (I'm now assuming they are French controlled British) suddenly appear in all the areas to the West and South of the areas I had taken. One or two divisions coming piecemeal would seem more realistic. I have been having trouble taking France (this would have been only the 2nd time). I have the original HOI but never got to play much at the time. Now I get to play all day every day (retired). Anyway it sounds like I triggered that "small chance" of having the English take over the French army (my bad luck). I have also noticed that the French must "take over" most of the Belgian and Dutch armies after launching an attack on the Low Countries. I'm still "relearning" the game but that was a big surprise. I'll have to try again from the start of Fall Gelb to see if it happens again. Now I'm curious. Thanks for the help.
