Hey all, first-time poster here, but I've been lurking and enjoying the discussions and your screenshots.
I'm loving the game, but one of the things that seems to be lacking is the entertainment mechanic. Is the only entertainment these people get walking in the park? Sure, there's the opera house or expo center, but it would be nice if the commercial districts also spawned buildings that contributed to entertainment in the area. Low-level commercial could produce things like bars, restaurants, art galleries, bowling alleys, etc. and high-level commercial could produce movie theaters, museums, and luxury spas. Entertainment buildings would tend to have higher crime rates and noise pollution. Perhaps you could even designate your commercial districts to specialize, like industry, in either Financial or Entertainment.
Here in Seattle, I live near the Pioneer Square district, a historic area filled with bars and clubs and hotels. Heck, who wouldn't want to recreate Bourbon Street in New Orleans? I'd love to have an area like that in my city!
The other thing is tourism. There's a tourist mechanic in the game, but it's pretty nebulous, no way to know your tourist rating or even how many are in your city. Plus, where do they stay? Do they all have relatives in the city? Maybe commercial zones could also spawn motels and hotels which add to the city's tourism rating.
I'm a big fan of the Tropico games, and always enjoyed playing around with the tourism and entertainment aspects. As much fun as I'm having with my city of Deadwood, it just seems like a very sterile and boring place where I wouldn't want to live.
