So I get this message:

jgHQT.png

Shah Malik Shah Ironsides is the current ruler of the massive Seljuk empire.

Curious, I track down the province launching the attack. And I see this:

aDf0V.jpg

92k troops emerging from a single province.

And here's the province:

20l3s.png

And that's the only province this guy has. He has no other provinces to support these troops.

Seriously, wtf?

I did, however, notice that the Seljuk dynasty was at 50% decadence, and that was after "events" which lowered it by 50.0%.

Am I correct in thinking that this massive invasion was spawned by the Seljuks being at 100% decadence?

Yes. It's a tribal invasion caused by decadence. Those guys represent the loose confederacy of tribes across the empire having had enough of the wine and harems in the capital and deciding to topple the decadent dynasty enjoying life in the palace. They're not supposed to have all come from that one castle.

shouldn't paradox fix this? 92K! thats some massive "invasion",

200k might be a bit too much to handle. 92k is fine (by the way - it's WAD, so there's nothing to "fix").

It's actually possible to defeat such an invasion in my experience with a bit of luck. I've suffered from one invasion once and defeated it, though only because the enemy army split into two chasing down my hurriedly called levies and I barely managed to time an attack well enough to wipe out one group.

It's one of the two poorly done parts of muslim mechanics. Decadence is supposed to represent the rise of the Almohads, but it does it poorly and applies it all over the muslim world, when the almohads were specifically a north african/spanish thing.

(The other poorly done part is the one where it requires every muslim ruler to act like the ottoman sultans when this kind of fratricidal succession was very much only used in the ottoman empire as a rule).

In all honesty I don't see the justification for a single attrition-free doomstack spawning in a single province. Really they should be spread out across the realm so that the invaders are forced to marshal their forces just like the realm they're invading. After all if it is supposed to represent the loose tribal confederations throughout the realm they shouldn't suddenly be in a single place in one day, well organized enough to not suffer attrition at all.

Well, in-universe, the tribes had already got wind of the court's decadence at 75%, and are indeed travelling to a particular county to gather. Since the invasion doesn't start immediatly at 75% decadence, they are getting ready to spring and waiting for you to lower your decadence. If you don't, time for the clean-up.

It's nice to see tribal leaders working with such specific figures for something as nebulous as 'decadence'.

(The other poorly done part is the one where it requires every muslim ruler to act like the ottoman sultans when this kind of fratricidal succession was very much only used in the ottoman empire as a rule).
Ibn Khaldun popularized the notion that muslim dynasties typically rose and fell in a cyclic pattern, and decadent dynasties were replaced by "unspoiled" nomads, in his book "Muqaddima" in the 14th century. Ibn Khaldun was a Maghrebi but he had travelled extensively, so presumably he thought this was a pattern that applied universally, and not just to Al-Andalus.
