Hi, I have a lot of experience modding other Paradox games, namely Clauswitz games like HOI4, and I want to make some Prison Architect mods.

I want to modify the suppression mechanics and edit the way suppression is distributed/its effects/add more ways to add or reduce the suppression status but I cannot find where that information is stored. I unzipped main.dat and searched through it but found no references to suppression in any of the files.
 
You can't find it because suppression like many more mechanics of the game is hardcoded.

The game requires an update for better modding support. Hopefully we will get it one day.
