I am playing a complete game scenario with the U.S.S.R. I know that I am supposed to get my ass kicked by Germany for a while. Then I regain my strength, over power them, and wim the war. However, German is beating me pretty badly. It's now winter '41 and they don't look like they're slowing down. I am trying to stall them to the best of my ability. I have created two fronts, one around Moscow and one around Stalingrad in hopes of dividing their forces. The new units that I am creating are being placed in the center of the country away from the front lines. It is my hope that the Germans will be slowed down, then I can attack down the middle and force them back. It is my first time playing as USSR, what are some proven strategies for beating back the Germans? Should I continue to just build infantry or should I build more powerful units?

Were you "blessed" with a terribly mild winter? Nothing is supposed to be moving in Russia at that time of the year...

Infantry do fine till you stall them, then you can focus on more 'exotic' things. Try to hold them behind a river, like those two right next to Smolensk. That is always where I try to create a bloody stalemate. Bleed them dry on the virgin soil of mother russia! :)

Don't forget that they will use ALOT of oil. THAT fact aided with winter will mean ultimate defeat. How many divisions do you have? How many does the Axis have? You should have many more than them by now. Just wait until they stall, plan well and counter-attack baby!!!

I do have more divisions then them, its just that their organization is almost twice as high as mine. About the oil, I am fighting hard right now to prevent them from reaching my oil fields to the south. I didn't realize playing as USSR is so intense, I feel like one false move could ruin me.

In my game as the USSR, I have noticed that Germany doesn't particularly slow down much in winter.

Also, it is 1945 and they show no indication of collapsing. They may run out of oil for a few hours each day, but othewise they are still running fine and producing units.
