What is interesting with the new (not so new now, but still) DLC policy is that there might never be an EUV or a CK3, because if EUIV and CK2 dies out, then they wouldn't have the will to create something similar. The only way for that to happen would be if one of those games die because of wrong direction or feature bloat rather than age. Otherwise, Paradox has no reason to invest huge amount of resources into sequels. Even then, the devs would probably have time to correct the mistakes.

That said, EUIV and CK2 should integrate some of their DLCs an get rid/rework some features.

The DLC policy would be good if after 2-5 years they started adding content to the vanila game to improve it. As it is now, they refuse to do so and the game is only getting worse and worse, more lame as time goes, just with more fancy buttons and ways to get new bonuses, but nothing game changing mechanic-wise. The game is actually only good for MP as it stands now, and for MP are they developing it. I understand new players may think it is all amazing, but me, playing EU since the 3 come out, its just more of the same and nothing has really changed significantly for quite some time, and so the games become boring and repetitive if what you are looking for is a Grand Strategy, and not a PC Risk game to paint the map.

Thats why Im so eager for a new Victoria game :D

Probably never as long as people keep buying from their terrible DLC system that makes the game pseudo subscription as pointed out above. Its certain to say that it will take still many years.

If it were up to me I'd start working on it right now, cause as the last updates show the game has little more to ffere and has no revolutionary ideas or new concepts or new chore mechanics. They just add new nations and provinces and some new buttons to give free stuff. But thats about it. But they are very good at marketing and they keep selling them so there won't be a new game for a long long time.

Thank god for the modding community.

Thats hardly never going to happen when every idea they have they put it in a DLC and keep selling instead of storing and building upong those ideas to release new game, is it?

Wait a minute - you can't have it both ways. First you say the DLCs have nothing new or exciting to offer but then you say EU5 won't happen because the new game-changing ideas that Johan was talking about are being put into EU4. So which one is it? :)

I can see EU4 continuing with the current model for a few more years as the demand for this stuff has certainly been there and the current business and game development model has been very successful for them. But I'm sure EU5 will happen eventually due to aging graphics if nothing else. When they come up with a new, fresh take on the whole thing (replacing manna with something else? etc.) they will start developing EU5 in a few years.

Well, not before a CK lll (and a Victoria lll, if they will ever make one).

They already said that they will, and if I remember right Vic2's lead designer has returned to PDS to work on an yet unannounced project.

But seriously people, have some patience. PDS always takes a LONG while to spit out a sequel:
HoI2 -> HoI: 4 years
EU2 -> EU3: 6 years
EU3 -> EU4: 6 years
HoI3 -> HoI4: 7 years
Vic -> Vic2: 7 years
CK -> CK2: 8 years

After releases of Stellaris and HoI4, PDS has also changed their policy to delay announcing their games, so that they can delay them in case they decide that more development time is necessary (delaying an announced game is a messy business, and the marketing departments don't like that). In other words, the number above are bound to get longer, even more so if their number of franchises increases (and Stellaris just increased that number).

I guess this can also be a reply to this thread: PDS took their sweet time releasing sequels long before the DLC model was introduced. Waiting for sequels is... always going to e a long wait in here.
