Derek's been teasing us with info about how 1.03 will or might be changing things, so I have to ask (let's face it; someone will sooner or later anyway ;) ):

When will 1.03 be released?

So mods/devs, please say that "it will be out when it's out" and sticky this thread :D ;)

But on a bit more serious note; is there any chance of seeing a beta patch before 1.03 itself comes?

:) Rafiki

And it will be out when its out. Lots of tweaking going on to balance things which takes time (cos thats what everyones wanted from 1.02 wasn't it :) )

Feature fix patch = fast. Balance fix patch = slower.

Feature fix patch = fast. Balance fix patch = slower.

what about GENERAL content ?

more accurate colonization there ? - one system or another

fixing or balancing ahistorical irresistible trend for feudal or authoritarian states towards social democracy in an evolutive way ? (give reactionnaries a chance...at least in Austria, Russia, partly Prussia, and backward warlord uncivilized states as well  ) - I got a socialist USA in my game too

more easy (even if at cost of historicity) to manage economy at easier levels to ease micromanagement for beginner, casual player, or the one trying to restrict playing time while playing great power in GC ) ?

what about unification (sorry, way more than 500 hours game play with 1.01b Russia at slow speed and hellish micromanagement are very informative, but let little time to get accustomed to 1.02 - want to end the campaign first)

oh, almost forgot :

- a warning "ultimatum" get your hands out of Moldavian principalties or we're at war, dirty Russian - like to avoid ahistorical all or nothing surprise attacks , (and also stop suicidal BB wars - when suicidal) ?
- a way to remove colonial buildings (so you can build a colony by destroying trade posts and building coaling rights instead) ?
- a way to prohibit ahistorical technological exchanges ? seems some of them greatly imbalance game - AI trading tech with China comes to mind ?

2d edit
and totally forgot :

- ability to retreat on ALLIED provinces during a war (was wiped helping prussia against France in Rhineland..without a single Prussian division helping oneself :D ..that's why I retreated, overwhelmed..and duly disappeared) - was unfair, same game Swedish invasion divs retreated safely from Helsinki to Laponia, all Russian controlled, or crossed Balticfreely seems to me (vodka , or swedish quality ?)

- ability to claim land for allies (conditional exchanges) - Italian swaps, with France or Prussia allied come to mind

thanks a lot (for info, and for Paradox staff for their dedication to help taming the "monster" ;) )

Can't (and won't) say beyond a couple of throwaway comments (partisans will be more manageable, '48 risings are more noticable).

There is a NDA on us you know.

All that falls in the gategory "balancing" as those things are incorporated in the game but don't quite work like they should.

Non Disclosure Agreement - basically if we tell on any secrets they get to feed us to the goat (and stop us testing the next game which is perhaps worse :))

Non disclosure agreement. You get to test the new stuff, but can't talk about or you'll be sued. They are fun to sign.

My biggest wish is for a percentage indicator for peace negotiations, like the one in open negotiations. I've wasted hours upon hours of time with EU2 and Victoria carefully selecting the provinces I want over and over again only to have a defeated AI reject it for no apparent reason. At least this way I could tweak the deal until the AI found it acceptable, you know, like a peace negotiation. ;)

You should be able to retreat to claim buildings you own too. I lost 80,000 men in a colonial war with GB when I tried to retreat and instead died :(

Rafiki, you've got to post and post and post on the forum and convince Johanne and Patrick that you have no life but playing Paradox games, then... maybe they'll let you sign a NDA, and you too can tell the rest of us that "I know but I'll be fed to the goats if I tell."
...

Non Disclosure Agreements

As a lawyer in the United States and a play tester for other games where I have signed a non-disclosure agreement, I can appreciate, understand and accept the need for non-disclosure agreements for pending projects. It is the only way to protect your investment in future projects and your intellectual property.

But, I really do not understand the use of non-disclosure agreements when it comes to existing, released games except to attempt to control discussion about an existing product. The consumer/gamer has already purchased VICTORIA. Why not be open with the consumer/gamer about what is going on with the product that he/she has purchased?

I have made this argument on different forums and for different games; but, once a game is released, the time for shrouding further development of the game in secrecy has really passed. I mean, at this point, PARADOX is reviewing and digesting all the feedback and game reports which are being generated, not by its crack team of beta testers; but, the gamers who actually bought the game. Why not trust this group of die hards who support PARADOX games and want VICTORIA to succede very badly?

If you read the forums here, while there are voices raised at every point or patch raising a hue and cry about what is wrong with VICTORIA, there is a much larger base of hard core fans who really want to play and like VICTORIA. These people share a desire to see VICTORIA be all it can be as a game.

So, for my two cents worth, if I were PARADOX, I would open up the information about what is going on with VICTORIA. PARADOX has an excellent reputation at working at getting a game right for as long as it takes. It is what makes many gamers die hard PARADOX fans. Maybe PARADOX ought to trust gamers more and they might see that that trust is returned, not only in good will; but, by a continued desire to support and defend PARADOX where ever required.

Sometimes it is the smart thing to do the right thing and provide sufficient information so the gaming public can follow along and understand what PARADOX is planning for a game we all want to play and enjoy.
