When were Eagles/Falcons added to portraits?

Just noticed Arpad has a huge eagle on his shoulder in his portrait. He has the hunter and falconer trait but no pet eagle modifier. I've played a lot since HF dropped, but this is the first time noticing an eagle in a character's portrait.

I think that's the special armour that a character gets when he reaches the highest rank in the Tengri warrior society.
