As a new player I kind of wonder this too.
Tram lines are faster but also more expensive, I think they are best used to cover longer distances, or am I wrong?
For bus vs trollys I don't really know.

Its a pro vs cons system like it was in CiM, but im not sure if CiM2 makes use of energy prices and stuff.

Generally trams should be cheaper to run but more expensive, ive never used trollies in ethier CiM or CiM2 so i wouldnt know about that option.

Also... When there are roads with parkinglanes, trams are a no-go.

Not true, putting a tram down the parking lane roads still allow it to use stops that are at the curbside. Tthough it makes you wonder if it can do this why not on any other multi-lane road, but then I do believe it was mentioned somewhere that it was due to safety reasons, if that were true then why do CIMs just stand in the middle of the road while waiting for a vehicle?!

The biggest thing I consider on bus vs trolley is how busy I expect the line to be... if I think I'm running a vehicle every 15 minutes rush hour, half hour off, then the cost difference for operating will more than make up for the extra cost to install the wiring and buy the vehicles. For less busy lines, then the savings of using electric won't be made up for. Also, I do think trolley buses have better acceleration (at least IRL they do), which might be a benefit. I know trams have better acceleration (they also have a higher capacity I believe) and are ideal for real high capacity corridors that don't yet justify a metro.
