1985? I say that because most major conflicts are already over and the Soviet Union is still alive (making it more interesting I think). Then, you can have the USSR collapse all of a sudden through scripted events etc etc, and well, I just think that would be fun... :)

I hereby cast my vote that the scenario start anytime between 1991 and 2001 for three reasons:

(1) Any earlier and it will not quite be ‘modern’.
(2) Starting in 2002 misses the September 11th attack and the beginning of the war on terror.
(3) Starting in 2020 has problems because it is impossible to know for certain how the world will be and thus much more difficult to set up the initial scenario since it will lead to many disagreements. (Global warming is a good example of a contentious major issue; if we were designing a game in the 1970s, there would be people arguing for global cooling and another ice age!) It's much easier to decide how things are now then how they're going to be. Don't make it any harder than it already is.

Starting in 2002 means we have to simulate nuclear war.

We cannot simulate nuclear war, but what we can do is make two scenarios. One starts in 2012, one in 2002. The 2012 one starts when nuke-shooter-downers have been mass produced, the 2002 one maybe on sept. 11 2001. You can not use nuclear weapons in either, and thus people will have a choice.

And for the last time shut up about starting pre-1991.

if Vonson want do a scenario from 1914-1991 we shouldnt also do that. And the people demands. This is not a democracy. We are trying to make a modern day scenario not a the most demand scenario. If people have ideas that fit our scenario we will listen to them and maybe accept them, but if they are not suitable with our scenario (e.g. why not beginn this scenario in 2400?) we say to them that this is not suitable in this scenario. Remember in the end the people working with this scenario decide how its going to look like.

1991 is the earliest possible start, and since people want lots of different start dates then let's make 4 different ones, but start the events from 1991 anyway.

The first one begins in 1991 with the dismemberment of the Soviet Union and the break-up of the Warsaw Pact, to give the scenario a "complete" feel and to link it with Vonsson's.

The second one begins in Sept. 11 2001 with terrorists sending the United States on a worldwide witchhunt, to allow people to go into "War on Terror" events without displacing themselves too far from modern times.

The third one changes with every update of the scenario so that it starts right now, today, so that its players can feel they are playing a real modern day scenario.

The fourth one starts in 2012 (need to find the date when the Incas said the world would end) so that people can play more realistically, with the question of nuclear simulation removed entirely.

That will, I am sure, satisfy everyone's needs and (I hope) not be too difficult.

Just for fun you can have a scenario called the Incas where right! (or something like that) It starts just when the incas said the world would end with every country in war with every country.
Every country got the highest feocity in their AI and we have a huge bunch of leaders for evry nation (I dont know but is it a max of four leaders at the same time for every country. In the middle of the game aliens enters. And we only got bad monarchs and bad random events. The scenario could end in 2042.

I know this just a dream, but I would love to play it. Its a total war scenario.

And btw Kyran wasnt the kuwait war in the year 1991? (or was it later ?). And I think the scenarios are a little bit short.

Here are my suggestion:
1991-20?? The Pride of the USA.
The end is unclear because this will end when the USE is formed.

2001-20?? The war against terror. This is a short war scenario and will end when we decide the war against terror ends.

20??-21?? Two sides of a coin. This scenario starts with the creation of USE and ends with the civil wars in the united states.

21??-2??? The fall of the dragon and the eagle and the rise of the bear. (yes I know it is along name but it shows exactly the time changes). Starts with the american civil war and the end is when we wants this scenario to end.

And finally the Modern day scenario from 2002 to the end of days.

As I said it was a dream nothing serious. I can make it myself when this scenario is done.
