Since this is such a hot topic, It needs a new thread (this theme comes up in every thread:rolleyes: ).

Seraphim wants the game to start in 2020 (because then we can change the provinces)
Most of the others that have posted here wants it to start earlier (1991 has been suggested, since it's when "the great war" project ends)
So if you have someting to say about the case, say it here!

Thank you.

I want it to start at 2000 at the latest, anything less than 2000, but after 1950 would also be fine with me. But please make it 2000 at the very latest start date.

2020 is in the future, and god only knows what things will be like then. So unless you plan on designing plasma tank graphics, please make the game start in modern times, and not in the future.

Thank you. ;)

Well I accept what you other guys decide, but the actual reason why we start in 2020 is beacuse we can change the provinces due to global warming. This can not be changed by events.

but global warmiong is a load of nonsense ;)

i say, make it 1945 - 2010. that is really the modern age, you have the new world order of '45, the next of '89 /91 and then so on

Sorry its allready excist a scenario during that time period. Vonssons Great War scenario has suddenly turned into a GW and cold war scenario. If you want to create that kind of scenario look in his thread (Great War 2.0)

If we made this earlier than 2002 I then it wouldn't be modern ;) I think it has already been decided to start in 2020, but if a change is to be made I suggest that it starts when this prodject is about over so that there won't be any historical (or should I say current) events that get left out.

Do you want to pass over all the interesting war on terror events that have happened?

Well the whole thing about starting 20 years in the future (post-terror time :D ) is that we can say that things that is not doable with EU2 (like rockets) doesnt excist because of that and that have happend.
And because of the war against terror is mostly done by bombing ( so far anyway) its a little bit hard.

But it can be simulated through events. For example, U.S. gets an event to bombard Kandahar... then the Taliban loses some men in Kandahar, and other effects. ;)

Perhaps, but it isn't going to be easier to simulate combat in 2020. How will we account for Plasma rifles and laser cannons with the EU engine? :D

It's going to be hard to simulate no matter if it is 1950 or 2050, so I say just start earlier, that way you have more time in which to play... and I don't know about any of you, but I would rather play a game filled with events from recent years, because that is what I know well. Not some events that take place in the future... we won't know what the future will be, so it will be hard to come up with events.

Unless someone can come up with a way to simulate nuclear war (and not through diplomatic points to represent "intimidation factor," if pakistan can get their hands on a nuke than anyone can), or global warming, then the start date has to be in the future.

As far as 1945-2010 goes that would be perfect for a cold war scenario taking into account that Stalinist bureaucracy would kill the USSR a bit later, kinda like the 1946 thing with HOI. But this is a modern day scenario, so it's 2023 until we get global warming and nukes taken care of.

Well as I said in the earlier post, it allready excist a scenario (wrong they (Vonsson) just started) during that time period. Talk to Vonsson if you like that kind of scenario. This a future scenario, nothing else.

There is no reason the two scenarios can't overlap in their timeline. But if this is a future scenario, why call it modern then? If it is modern it should start now, not 20 years in the future....

In all probability, it will have an effect on the world. I admit that there is a chance that a more enlightened leader may assume the throne of the United States and start signing some protocols, but until then the most probable thing that will happen is that global warming will affect everyone in 20 years.

Will the change be that great that the terrain will change in entire provinces? The deserts will expand, but will it expand to an extent that is worth messing with?

It allready is reality. Islands are sinking in to the ocean and so on and the sientist says that even if we stop all pollution today it would take sveral years before it would even effect the global warming.

At the very least I could see global warming change with tax values going down in some places (like US) and up in others (like canada), but all coastal provinces will lose lots of population and tax value and everything.

But even with that, what are we going to do about nukes? I really want to start in 2002 but the nuke thing is a serious problem.
