When playing as USA, Japanese seem to always win against China?

At first I just want to tell the reader that I am not 100 percent sure that this always happens, that's why I said "seem".

I have tried 3 games as USA, and in all of them Japan quickly won over China in about 1-3 years.
When I play as Germany, this does NOT happen, the war rages on until Soviet Union declares war on Japan and pushes Japan back to mainland.

I would be OK with it if this happened when playing as Germany, but not as USA. I definitely want China to aid me in my war against the Japanese. I have the option to control the Chinese army, but I don't want to control their army all the way until the end of the war.

Does anyone else have this problem? Should I just try to always create a new game until China can hold off the Japanese?

This is WAD, unfortunately. Im not 100% sure of this, but according to what ive seen in test games and the like, when playing as the US, AI Japan gets a significant number of bonuses, including some such as more IC, supplies, resources and manpower if im not mistaken; when playing as Germany, since Japan is not your immediate enemy, they get no such bonuses, making the Sino Japanese war an actual one instead of a rush affair. The balance is still trying to be achieved. This has been an issue since HOI2 came out, with people commenting things like ´Japan wins too quickly´, an update would come and then it would turn into ´China wins all the time now´. This would continue over every single game developed with the engine. DH has come close, yet its not there yet. The only mod ive played that recreates the war realistically is TRP. They actually found the balance, and it shows. WIF2 is the worst by far; ive seen japan literally just rush through the nationalists before annexing them in 2 months flat.

In regards to whether you should wait to see, there is a chance that Japan will get stalled fighting the chinese, maybe like 1 out of 5 games but still. For this to happen, help out the chinese before and during the war. How? fund partisans for Japan (it has the highest chance of success, assuming a good intelligence minister and intelligence level) and give supplies and money to the chinese. The chinese have notoriously low IC, so they need the cash and supplies to move around. I would also suggest, even though i dont do it because i consider it cheesy, to take military control of them while you wait as the US for the war to start.

I've checked and it's quite a shame but the Japanese are constantly pumping out troops as the Chinese struggle to even supply their armies.

I want to play as the US but also don't want to micromanage the Chinese. I understand that the US did in fact do that to some extent but it's just annoying since I have absolutely no control over how they spend their resources. Even if I flood China with supplies they still somehow manage to refuse to reinforce their armies.

That's probably due to AI settings

Nat Chi IC is never that high, and most AI files have reinforcement IC usage capped at something like 20% of IC, after consumer goods and supplies.

Honestly, I don't see the problem. You are playing the USA. Let Japan eat China. You don't need their help. Japan is very easy to beat as the USA already.

@son of liberty true, but I like historical accuracy, even if DH isn't exactly made for it.
@Eugenioso Why can't they just up China's army a bit? And perhaps give Japan some IC boosting event's later in the war, when China is already well defending the areas they have.

When playing USA one can add off map bonuses to IC, supplies and resources to China. And/or add more troops to China. To make sure China isn't OP one could add locked divisions so the Chinese can't move them, or lots of garrisons so the Chinese can't attack with them.

When playing a country that will fight Japan I don't mind if they take China, as it makes Japan stronger and more of a challenge.

@Van der Gent Alright! Hm I don't remember if I could give China any IC bonuses, haven't played in a while, but once I will play as USA again I'll be sure to check that, thanks!

If I was at home I'd give you the proper coding, but I'm not. You can add it to the China scenario file. That's the easiest way. It's something like free_ic = X free_supplies = X, I think. Oh wait, I found it on the forum, you don't have to use .0000 though, just one number will suffice and equals daily off map production.
free = {
oil = 5.0000
supplies = 10.0000
rare_materials = 5.0000
metal = 10.0000
energy = 15.0000
money = 5.0000
transport = 0.0000
escort = 0.0000
ic = 5.0000
manpower = 0.0000
}

Or you can add an event. Found this:

command = { type = free_ic value = 25 } #free off-map IC
command = { type = free_energy value = 60 } #free energy per day
command = { type = free_metal value = 30 } #free metal per day
command = { type = free_oil value = 20 } #free oil per day
command = { type = free_rare_materials value = 15 } #free rares per day
command = { type = free_supplies value = 50 } #free supplies per day
command = { type = free_money value = 10 } #free money per day

command = { type = energypool value = 1000 } #added to energy pool
command = { type = metalpool value = 500 } #added to metal pool
command = { type = oilpool value = 500 } #added to oil pool
command = { type = rarematerialspool value = 250 } #added to rares pool
command = { type = supplies value = 500 } #added to supplies pool
command = { type = manpowerpool value = 10 } #added to manpower pool
command = { type = money value = 100 } #added to money pool

I didn't think this was so bad but I started a new game last night as the US and Japan crushed China sometime in 1938. I'm all for them winning or at least drawing out the fight because in previous editions often they'd lose by the time Pearl Harbor came around. But this is a bit silly...
