Have you ever tried to get an American to give something up? For what is one of the most advanced nations on the planet we sure love our anachronisms.

America uses both the MM/DD/YY and the Imperial system. Would love if we used the Metric system, but for most daily life it would be too problematic to quickly force a change, as people are used to using imperial measurements to visualize measurements in their heads.

from experience, it's not problematic at all if you implement a transition period of, say, 2 years, where both units are used side-by-side. though i still think of people's heights as feet-inches

Hate to derail the hating on the imperial system (which actually for a lot of uses is simpler), but the bizarro way that Americans mangle dates isn't anything to do with the imperial/metric divide because (we) Brits haven't done dates in that order.

And for non-numerical reporting of dates, M/D/Y isn't that illogical. "January the 6th" and "The 6th of January" would both be perfectly reasonable usage. It is just 1/6 that is weird.

I find MM/DD/YY to be more intuitive, because that's how we usually say it in real life... right? Is there languages that aren't the case? Am I the minority?

Sort of off topic but most countries don't use the entire metric system, the actual unit for temperature in metric is Kelvin not Celcious as most people use

Please learn that other people use other date orders and think if both possibilities as an option.
Most languages do not use "January 12th" as a date but say it as "12th (of) January" or even just "12 January". It is therefor only logical that those people use DD/MM/YY systems. Similar to how you're reading this on forum.paradoxplaza.com and not paradoxplaza.forum.com

(*) That would be the 'official' metric way of writing it. Tip: If you ever have to keep daily digital reports, start writing dates like that in the titles, find reports back through alphabetic sorting
