It seems to be my experience that it is almost certainly pointless to claim throne on a fellow Muslim ruler ... due to the +100% chance for heir mechanic.

Personally, no. This thread has been very illuminating. I haven't experienced many PU bugs and I find the mechanics to pull you into succession wars is unproblematic and pretty cool (Maybe there should be an option to gracefully decline a claim though). What is annoying is of course in-game text being wrong or not up to date with the current game mechanics. That's an issue all across EU IV.
