When I'm joining a crusade, do I lost honor if I, well, don't crusade much ?

Similar but more seriously worded question, I'm right to assumed that when I'm crusading, my vassals wont revolt against me ?

But if you dont crusade you are easily excommunicated. You dont need to rush into middle east but you are expected to join the war.

Well, you get a relationship bonus of + 20 or so, but I've encountered rebellions when fighting of Jihads.

I don't know, I tend to not crusade very much. I mostly know about this from playing Sicily, where you constantly have to fight off Jihads.

In the middle of a crusade with all my realms troops i accept an allied request to join his Holy War (with no real intention of turning up) and lo, now I my vassals are unhappy with me having their troops away for more than a month...

No, as far as I've observed vassals don't complain about levies during crusades.

Nope, not for Jihads and apparently not for crusades as well. I was fighting one war with a 10 point opinion hit when his Holiness called a Crusade. Never dismissed the levies, in fact kept besieging the same Scottish strongholds, and the bitch-o-meter kept dropping as if I had dismissed the armies.

No they don't complain about crusades, unless you have another offensive war going on at the same time.

There is also no disadvantage to joining the crusade, and then not sending troops, except that you are still at war, and can't use any option that requires you to be at peace (so can't throw feasts or change crown laws etc).

If you do send troops you will get 25 pre & piety just for landing, and the crusader trait, which gives +2 martial and a large bonus to other crusaders (which with patience can include your male, mature aged nobility) & the church. So sailing there, changing a few commanders and running away from the Egyptian doomstack is also an option.

The only person who's opinion matters is the pope, if you aren't crusading he'll be slightly peeved at you, if you are he'll generally like you more. Vassals won't complain if you raise their levees during a crusade, however be prepared for them to start bitching the moment it ends

He cares not about a single foot of foreign land, but he will not surrender a single inch of his own!

If the Pope calls a crusade, go gather your army and send them to the crusade target. Then, appoint your king and other vassals (or any other male character) as army leaders, have them fight one battle with the infidel within the crusade-target kingdom, then swap them with another set. This causes them all to gain the crusader trait and thus like each other. My faction problems actually went down after I tried this trick.

Alternately, if there's one lord in your kingdom you really hate, send everyone to the crusade except him so they'll like your ruler more in comparison. Or send only him and a tiny stack and hope he gets killed/captured =)

I'm only a noob so I really don't want to actually capture somewhere far off like Jerusalem and have to protect it from the Fatimids and their friends. But the bonuses from gaining the Crusader trait are too much to pass up, so I just join all crusades though I have no actual intention of capturing anything, and just retreat after I've given out the crusader badges. It really isn't a concern to me as to whether the actual crusade succeeds or fails.

Ah, yes, the "broship of the crusades"

No need to fight, just besiege any place in the target kingdom and swap your leaders after a couple of days (3-5 days at most, it sometimes takes some time for the crusader trait to fire). Fighting takes time too, so this might be why some people think it's necessary to fight someone. Don't forget, you can change leaders while besieging, just pause the game, set a movement order, change leaders, and then cancel the order. You won't lose any siege progress as long as you don't unpause before stopping the movement.
