Family can be good, but when do we not like a character so much we hired people to take him out?
Especially if that person is a son or daughter, and even more if that person is an heir.

Let me start first

I like diplomatic heirs, grey eminences , 20+ diplomacy, good virtuous traits, and a nice wife/ husband. I like those kind of heirs, but I am picky about whom I select. I usually let my lvl 4 diplomat character teach heirs, 1st and 2nd in line mostly. I teach my first born son, second born son/ oldest daughter. The one I pick for heir first off has to be a Grey Eminece. If both are lvl 4 then I pick the one with the highest diplomacy. It's easy if that one is my oldest son, but it gets messy if it's my second in line. Other reasons y I kill my family is do too;

Having bad starting traits like imbecile, slow, weak, imbred, etc.
Being lvl 1 diplo

So how have u killed your family in this game?

So how have u killed your family in this game?

I have as a rule to always accept things as they are, and I cannot stand the thought of killing my offspring.

The only exception to this was in a 1.05 game when, as Duke of Portucale, my mother had inherited the Duchy of Algarve. That meant that I was well set to get my second Duchy when she died. But for some reason, she soon went into a war of indepdendence against the King.

As she was still relatively young (mid 50's) and that was her only major title, I dearly feared that the monarch would beat her and strip her of her titles. I was too weak to help her, and even if I managed to actually aid her, she would be left alone and an easy prey for the Almoravids.

So, after pausing for about half and hour and feeling very unconfortable, I eventually sent my spymaster to her capital and then gave the order to assassinate. I actually worked right at the first time, and I wasn't discovered (this is incredibly rare for me). I thus inherited the Duchy, and the war ended immediately. My reputation was unblemished.

But I know what I did, and I'm still bothered by it today. I don't want to be in a position to have to do such a thing *ever again* :sad:

It's not really suitable for this forum and it's entirely unrelated to gaming, but PM me if you're genuinely interested.

ha....awesome....lol

anyways...i use marriages to inherit duchies/kingdoms (if possible, the whole area, not just a claim) everytime. So occasionally, especially if im aiming for kingdoms I end up choosing wrong/inheritance changes or I can't kill enough of the 'pretenders' before me to get my due for my heir...But I never despair, im invariably setting it up for my 2nd in line to do the same with some other area. So if the 1st loses his claim/inheritance, or the 2nd in line has a significantly better one (this happens more than the first thing) then my oldest is not long for this world. This works wonders, cause I get one duchy for my next heir to add each time.

(my current game for example I have used this method to 'conquer' greece from the hungo-byzantine empire (minus 1/2 Anatolia) without one war, the whole of greece, except adrianapolis which is part of the kingdom of hungry in the empire. )

And, for the ones that I don't play (aka oldest surviving) I get eventually people I'll invite back to my court and press claims of as members of my dynasty later. So a win-win, smaller court + more 'claims' even if there not 'my' claims.

Ironically, I'm very very evil in the games im most successful in cause my eldest(es?) usually dies as I get more and more ambitious with the further you are from inheritance with how many people I'm willing to kill to place a son on a throne somewhere (and thus the power of the throne, aka kingdoms versus empires).
