Sounds like fun alt-history although as someone already mentioned if he had gotten that far he would've probably just replaced the Ottoman dynasty with his own and taken over the entire empire.

Imo at that point you are basically talking about an alternative history in which Ali overruns the Ottomans at which point there would be no Albania, but an entirely new empire.
I am well aware that the (Ottoman) Empire is heading by the day toward destruction and that it will be difficult for me to save her. And why should I seek the impossible? On its ruins I will build a vast kingdom, up to the Euphrates and the Tigris.

Lots of reforms needed tho.

At the time egypt was preoccupied with the mamluk idea, invading sudan for the primary purpose of capturing negro slaves for mamluk armies (see M2TW sudanese gunners) and secondarily gold (which wasnt found). Even the negroslave gathering went quite poorly, losing more than was gained troopwise.

It took a good long while to realize that merely hiring sudanese or better yet delta peasants worked much better. Big sign in pictographs: See world, free boom-sticks, free coin and plunder allowed of conquered lands.
Would have ran out of boom-sticks quite fast as locals would have flocked up for this amazing adventure.

Why would Muhammed Ali bother to invade a backwater region at the time instead of advancing into far more profitable areas?
That "backwater region" you speak of, are the lands of the heirs to the ancient Illyrian peoples. Muhammad Ali, as a person borne of the Albanian homeland, would be drawn naturally to the realm of his forebears.
Granted, if he were to instead carve out a far more profitable area of land for Albanian settlement. Say, Serbia or Macedonia. Albania could surpass the incredible heights. Beyond even, what their admittedly sparse homeland already grants them.

One Albania, able to truly rule the Mediterranean. Capable, potentially, of finally paying thousands of years back in the debt vengeance, for the Illyrian Wars.
