But I would be willing to test Beaga's apparently great torpedo cruiser design.
Their missile is actually pretty good and unusually fast, I remember using them in old times, they're more resembling of the Plasma Cannon rather than Space Torpedoes. :D

Tricky thing is, it's deep in the awesome Physics, and you still need torpedo tech as a pre-req. Salvaging debris can save time there, but it's lots of useless tech to go through. :<

No, they aren't (talking about the late game Physics torps). They ravage shields and while having decent output on their own. Torpedo cruisers are excellent battleship support and will ravage all battlecruisers and stations.

How many neutron torpedoes per cruiser are we talking? 3, 2, or 1? And i'm assuming plasma in the remaining slots?

Yes, or kynetic. Laser, missiles and disruptors fall short.

As many torps as possible but small and médium mounts for guns. Naturally a screen of corvettes is still needed, as well as mixing with standard cruisers sometimes. It's a capital ship/Fortress killer build.

I got trashed the last game because the fallen empire next to me decided to wake up, just as we were invaded by the extra dimensional beings. I think I could have handled the Fallen Empire, but not both it and the extra dimensional invasion at the same time..... New Game!

Because i compared torp cruisers and the regular cruisers i use. Not as big a difference as I suspected, but still quite large. Attacking an FE fleet with 120 cruisers gives 59 average losses for torp cruisers, and 40 for my regular cruisers. The regular cruisers I use are also cheaper, so I don't see any point in using cruisers armed with neutron torpedoes.
