Something I have noticed while playing is that rushes in my cim towns doesn't make sense to me. First of all I just have to point out that I play with 50% time speed which makes my days longer so it's not the usual "time goes to quick" argument as my cities are kinda empty in the nights and so on.

But what surprises me is that while there is an evening rush there is no morning rush what so ever? All those sims go home in the afternoon, but when, WHEN??, do they actually go to their workplace? Shouldn't there be the same amount out in traffic leaving their homes around 7AM as there is people going home around 5PM? Why is it that my morning trains run empty while my afternoon trains run overcrowded - and there are more people out even around 10PM a weekday night than in the mornings? It makes no sense to me at all...

Actually, there is a minor rush in the morning between 8h and 11h. What happens in evening is due to rush + everybody using the system. This occurs because of turists and pensioners. They wake up late and start using public transport later too. So, it depends of your city's population composition too.

People do not go working at the same time in real life. And they do not going home from work at the same time. But after work they are going shopping, going into leisure places et.c. So evening rush is not because people sop working and go home. It is because people are moving around city by their other needs.
As for morning rush, it is created mostly by people going to work, that is why it is less dense.

In most cities the morning rush is much harder to handle than the afternoon rush. This is simply caused by the fact that most people start to work somewhere between 7 and 9 am. At the same time most schools also start. In the old days it was much more concentrated, as there were much fewer jobs and possibilities to start working later. In the afternoon the time span spreads over several hours, as people end working at several times. You have a small rush between 1 and 2 pm mainly caused by pupils using public transport to go home, and then another one between 3 and 6 am with its highest point around 4 or 5 pm. But the rush hours in the afternoon is not that big as in the morning, also because then people are not going all in the same direction: some go home, some go to leisure activities, some go shopping, but not all do the same thing. If you have a city which mostly contains of workers and heavy industry, the rush hour times could be different: around 6/7 in the morning and then around 2/3 in the afternoon, plus kids going to school and back.

In CiM2 several things do not count, and most cims do the same thing: they go to work at around 9-11 am, then they go shopping or leisuring at 4-6 pm and then go home at night. So you have the biggist traffic in the evening, while in most real cities public transport companies have to lower the frequencies at around 7 or 8 pm. It would be nice if we could adjust the starting and endtimes of work, school, leisure, shopping and so on for the several social groups in the rule set editor. Then we could take regional differences much more into account.

But those graphs are really hard to read... I have had a look at them but it's not at all clear to me which hour there is a peak. Does the Day graph show an actual day starting with 0:00 at "0" and 23:59 in the end? Or is the last column the time that is just that moment and then 24 hours back?

The last column is the last hour, and goes back from there.
I agree it is difficult to read. I assume they couldn't get numbers to fit nicely on the graph.

I also agree with the rush hour times being weird. Maybe it is my systems, but the rush doesn't clear out until 1am, and there doesn't seem to be a morning rush. I might double check those graphs to make sure.

If I recall correctly, if you look carefully on the day graph there should be a slightly thicker line which denotes 00:00.

Thank you, I finally managed to adjust my timetables after my rushes. Apparently I do have a morning rush between 9 and 11. Why does that default timetable make you believe there is one around 7? That's just pure lies. And I had to have a looong evening rush from 16 to 20, rather than just around 17.

This problem was discussed in an earlier post here and a dev responded that they would look into it.
