hehe i still lvoe my Poland as catholic...and austria is lots of fun as fun...catholic and crc..funny is never use crc much as poland..although as austria its like second nature..as for protestant..if the only reason you are changing is because you need the cash bah..go change the tax settings if thats all you worried about..bah and double bah hehe i almost get sick at thought someone making austria.poland, spain or portugal <or any italian state> into a protestant ugh
Are you guys sure that the moral bonus for reformist is worthless compared to the financial bonus of the protestans?

morlae is nice..but with tech increases from higher taxes your tech can give you high morale as well...so its really not a tech advantage...the loss of taxes slows your research down by 20% or is it 30%? which means if it takes 200 years toi max out all techs doing max taxes...it would take a protestant 180? <they get 10% more taxes yes or no? and take Calvinist and shiite 260 years...and tech will beat your morale bonus..becuase it raises not only morale but fire and shock etc...yes early on in game that morale is major..but in late game it sucks and you have fallen too far behind..unless of course you manage to conquer a huge relam in order to offset your lost revenues..but then gettign bigger means you need to pay more in taxes for each breakthrough yes? <isnt tech affected by size of nation..ie small nations get faster breaks cause takes less points?> so it doesnt seem to pay for itself...

Yeah, but as a protestant your income is about double that of a calvinvist, giving you armies of double the size!
Reformist armies with their morale bonus can be annoying, but they always succumb to weight of numbers, although the AI rarely leaves you the choice of having to fight them!
But Protestantism is certainly better for small nations (leaving out the Dutch with their dynamism) if they want to amount to anything colonially. Colonies cost, but it's the best way of expanding your territory if you don't want to be fighting a war every other year-and given the vulnerability of most minors to invasion, that's not a bad idea at all.

I'm just trying out protestant France. This is gonna be too easy... It's the 1520's and I get 400+ ducats yearly.

Ok my favorites gamewise:
1) Protestant: +30% tax income, + extra money on rel. change, + colonist
2) Reformed: morale bonus, + 2 colonists
3) Counter Reformed Catholic: cool CB's + 1 colonist
4) Moslem (Shiite & Sunni) / Catholic / Orthodox: no preferred order

I tend to prefer Orthodox to Catholic or Sunni/Shi'ite (not that it matters, as barring creative editing you can't convert between them) since an automatic colonist is always welcome!
Agreed... I wanted to put Ortohodox at 4 and the others at 5 at first... But I still can't determine which is best of catholic and moslem... Gamewise I would say Moslem cuz of the morale bonus... That leaves catholicism as quite a shitty religion (GAMEWISE !!! )

Catholicism's diplomats are perhaps more important than morale bonuses, possibly, since the morale bonus gets much less useful as the game progresses and technology advances, whereas diplomats don't.
Ok true... Morale bonus is handy however at the beginning... Just look at the early progesses of Turkey... It is later that they fall flat on their arse
Normally with the player giving them a helpful push!

Sunni doesn't even get a morale bonus though. Only shia. Turkey gets a bonus just because it is Turkey. Sunni is just bland, the standard religion. Catholicism at least yields 2 diplomats a year. Shia loses 20% tax income for that morale though (and a stab bonus) so a penalised reformed religion. Could be considered the crappest if u aren't favouring that morale bonus.
I usually go with catholicism, and always for Counter-Reform catholicism! I mean, you can you possibily allow your own people to go to hell for disregarding the Pope?
Besides, it's great fun to whack all those heretics and them force them to convert to the true religion ! Let that be a lesson to them! Besides, there's where Spain gets a real bagful of points in the latter XVIth century (with missions turned off, that is).
As for the protestant bonus, I guess it's very much accurate; our universities actually debated this point for a long time, and we reached the conclusion that, in RL, protestants were FAR more greedy than catholics (catholicism actually condemns excess profit) and therefore had a much more dynamic economic system than we did - and still have, for that matter; look at the huge income differences between catholic and protestant countries today; France herself was hugely damaged by this.
