Tip: If your admin advisor is a natural scientist (+ prod eff) then the comet event changes to be a benefit.
No, it is not dependent on the advisor, the option looks like this:

Code:
option = {
        name = "personality_options.5060.a"     # Fascinating!
        ai_chance = {
            factor = 1
        }
        highlight = yes
        trigger = {
            ruler_has_personality_ancestor = { key = scholar }
        }
        add_adm_power = 20
    }

I have no idea what `ruler_has_personality_ancestor` means and I can't find anything on it.

I thought it was the scholar one. Not 100% sure though.

Funny, my game always happens to crash whenever the comet event appears, unless it is the event about the Great Comet, which...my computer can handle for some reason.

According to the Wiki, a natural scientist decreses the chance of the event by half, so they do something.

I could have sworn there was an event where a comet is sighted but the natural scientist comes out and explains to the population that it's a perfectly normal and natural occurrence so everything's OK (insert small bonuses). Completely different text, and IIRC a different event title and picture as well. I get it maybe one game in 3?

I read through the base comet event (...\events\RandomEvents.txt, line 2586, eventid=5060), and there's no code in there that would change the event text and picture, so I'm clearly thinking about something else. No idea what exactly though.

EDIT: I guess I'm thinking of the one-off very-time-sensitive Great Comet event. Ah well.

EDIT2: As noted by other people above, the fact that a natural scientist means you're half as likely to get a stabhit comet is worth including in your decision-making process.

Brandenburg with 4 comets in 40 years. We have an astronomical oddity here.

It's one of the oldest events in the eu series. I think they should finally remove it, the "joke" is stale at this point. Events that are not tied to game events and the campaign flow should be removed all together, there are myriads of possibilities to introduce immersive events, like random MTTH for -1 stab event from refugees, if your neighbour is at bloody war[let say >5 war exhaustion and have at least 100 dev]. I don't know why paradox keep these lazy events tbh.
