What's the secret to assigning airwings to armies? My airwings keep turning off their mission.

Hi guys, in late game, i have such huge front lines and thousands of planes, that i try assigning airwings to my armies. the result is though, that the airwings all turn off their selected missions, resulting in thousands of planes doing nothing? also, will CAS assigned to an army, only provide air support to the army their assigned to? i've found that other armies fighting in that area, won't get any CAS if the only CAS airwings in that region are assigned to another army? is that intended?

They join battles with that army only, and still give bonus if there are other army in THAT battle. It is very useful if you have limited CAS and want to concentrate to your tank army. Just thrown 1000 CAS in the important airzone.

I don't use assign much so probably a bug. Try not to give manual order to the assign air wings, and you still need to turn them on the CAS, air superiority .

Thank you for the response. the fact that it could be used so that they only join battles with a certain army, could be used as a way to prioritise that, i agree. when not though, it's a bit annoying haha
I don't give manual orders to the wings once assigned, as that unassigns them from the army. What i mean is that once assigned, they turn off their mission IE Air Sup, CAS etc, which is why their order arrows are now white, they've turned off their missions.

Yeah then it is a bug. I don't like to assign to my big tank army because they can spread to the wrong air zone if my army is spreading

There are a couple bug reports about losing missions, though I found none with an official confirmation yet:
